Yes, I keep redfoots. I have never found them to be delicate or difficult in any way. They have higher humidity requirements then some other species which can be a little difficult to provide depending on where you live. They take a wide variety of greens and fruits which are easily obtained and they are enthusiastic eaters, never a problem there. There are environmental and dietary requirements that must be followed to keep them healthy but that is true of any reptile.

This is a tricky question.

To raise a healthy, happy Red-foot with a nice, smooth shell is a pain in the neck.

Sure, these guys are moderately hardy and can tolerate some abuse and neglect, but they are pretty delicate in other ways.

The BEST sites I know for these tortoises are:
http://www.redfoots.com and the sister site http://www.turtletary.com and
http://www.tortoisetrust.org

Read them over, and if you think you can do the right foods, right temps, right humidity, right lighting, and right housing- go for it!

I LOVE Red-foots and am raising three with hopes of getting a couple others in the next year.

If you have some other questions about them, try http://www.turtleforum.com. There are several other Red-foot folk there.

I cared for a number of red-footed tortoises in the years past. They are usually un-problematic as long as you can provide the correct environment and enough proper food.

They do require a sizable enclosure and regular exposure to UV-B light.
