Y = mx + c
Y = 3x - 5
m = slope = 3
c = y-intercept = -5

When in this form (y=mx+b) the slope is the number in front of x: and so your slope is 3. The y intercept is b in the above equation. In your case, it's -5. Putting equations into slope-intercept form like this allows you to easily pick out the slope and y-intercept.
