The simple answer is you know when you know.
I've been lucky enough to be "in love" with a bunch of people but I've only found two people I thought I could live with long term. I was wrong the first time. So far so good with the second.
I don't really subscribe to the "true love is forever" school of thought. People change, situations change, emotions evolve and develop into friendship, or love or from those to something else. Love is what it is, while it is, and nothing more. Thinking it's forever just means you're more likely to stay in a less than ideal situation for longer than you should.
Relationships are work, and love isn't always enough. Recognizing that, and understanding that it's okay to change and accept that your feelings have changed is often very difficult.
The right one? I don't subscribe to "only one soul mate" either. The right one, is the one that makes you happy, as long as they make you happy. Consistent misery doesn't come from someone you love (or who loves you).
As for knowing if there is /any/ right one out there, you don't until you find them. But if you don't look you'll certainly never find one.

In the long run, falling in and out of love with the "right person" is not a very useful consideration for living one's life. Of course you will be attracted to some people and not to others. Beyond that, however, a relationship requires continual if not constant effort. Expect to be disappointed sometimes, and plan to give more than you receive. Never expect perfection. Good luck.

I truly believe that we are destined to be with one mate. One sole mate. Unfortunately, we tend to look in all the wrong places. When you pick your mate, what do you base your relationship on? Are you compatible? Do you compliment each other? Are you willing to forsake all others? When you touch, is there electricity? Do you love the other persons idiosyncrasies, their quirks, their thoughts? The trouble today is people are in too much of a hurry to get married and start a family. Be sure that your mate is the one before children are brought into this unforgiving world. Work on getting to know each other before the huge responsibilities are piled on top of a new relationship. When you fall out of love, no one has to tell you, you just know it. Why do people fall out of love? They have neglected to work at staying together. Being in a relationship isn't easy. It takes a lot of work to keep the romance and interest alive. When we lose our focus, we begin to lose everything else that used to make sense.

Just assume that the right person is out there for you and you will manifest the required attributes that will make it possible for you to recognize this person.
i have no clue how YOU would know if YOU were in love or not.

This is easy- its not about thinking or knowing- its about feeling when it comes to love. Love is an emotion of the heart, not the mind. Falling in love and out of love is something that you feel- When you fall in love your heart starts racing when you are near one another, you have butterflies, you have that warm, glowy feeling in your heart. Falling out of love you have that sinking feeling in your chest, like when you are half asleep and you dream you are falling, the jump to wake yourself up. Your heart lets you know that something isnt right. As for how you know if they are out there, you dont. But you will know when you find them.

You just know. What you don't know is when it's going to happen, but you'll feel it.
