"Of Liberty I would say that, in the whole plenitude of its existence, is unobstructed action according to our will. But Rightful Liberty is within limits drawn around us by the Equal Rights of others. And I do not add ‘within the limits of the law’, because the law is often but the Tyrants-will, and always so when it violates the Rights of an individual." Thomas Jefferson

"A government big enough to supply you with everything you need is a government big enough to take away everything that you have.... The course of history shows that as the government grows, liberty decreases." Thomas Jefferson

"The object and practice of Liberty lies in the limitation of Governmental power." General Douglas MacArthur

"Liberty has never come from Government. It is always come from the subjects of Government. The history of Liberty is the history of resistance." Woodrow Wilson

"Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it."

Oh, here is another quote (not part of the question, i just thought republicans should read it.).

"[Quite] frankly, you have to understand the fact that Rudy Giuliani was a McGovern Democrat, he was endorsed by the Liberal Party when he ran for Mayor. In his heart, he's a Democrat. He's paraded all over this country with Bill Clinton and, in fact, he's very comfortable with Mario Cuomo. But what Rudy Giuliani wants is to be bailed out in the city, in the mess he's in, and everybody understands very clearly in politics that they struck a deal, that Mario's going to continue to be the big spender, save Rudy the options of raising taxes by pouring money statewide into the City of New York and bailing it out."
From an interview with Michael Long, Chairman N.Y.S. Conservative Party, CNN Crossfire, October 25, 1994

It's Rudy Giuliani comment and don't worry, because I wasn't planning on voting for him anyways!

It's interesting that his comment contrasts directly with what Thomas Jefferson had said. Also, I agree with Thomas Jefferson about big governments.

Rudy Giuliani's remark, of course! He seems to have a very skewed view of freedom!
