I've seen the movie. You've got to understand that the technical advisor on the film was Tina Turner. Ike wasn't allowed any input so it's a totally biased and one-sided view. It would be interesting if someone made a film with his side of the story. The whole point of the film is to make Tina look good and to prop up her career and, let's be fair, with a voice like she's got she ceratinaly needs it. The film was taken from Tina's book of the same name, heavily weighted in her favour. I'm surprised Ike didn't sue. In his biography in 2002 he admitted to slapping her but says that 'he never beat her.'

As the story is entertaining, there is no reference to its context. All that a couple did not get along together. She portrayed him as violent without reason. There is nobody present to either support or defend the Ike's posture in the relationship beyond Tina. It's entirely possible for Tina to be so active and get her butt kicked trying to do so much toward Ike that he would not put up with. A particular scene shows battered Tina running from Ike to a hotel room completely broke. However, I have seen women start things with men and get their a** handed to them only to cry abuse and later learn the woman started it all to begin with. Toward the end, I also noticed the implication that Ike brought a revolver into the dressing room. No shots were fired. It wasn't used as a striking object, etc. It was immaterial. Observation skills tell me there was a lot of creative licensing going on.

We went to the movie when it first came out. And afterward we were discussing it at work,( by the way this was in Los Angeles), when a couple of the guys began to explain that they used to live close to the motel that Ike and Tina stayed in when they were performing in L.A.,they proceeded to explain that the movie was false in it's depiction of Tina, that she would be with another women, and Ike would walk in on them, kick the woman out and Tina would jump on him and they would begin fighting. So like I had to learn, don't believe everything you see in the movies!

I think I've seen that film about 3 times. It just shows you that things aren't always what they seem.

Tina was one of the lucky ones - she got away and made a whole new life / career for herself.
