Essentially, they became socialistic. Groups of people figured out that they could get money by manipulating the Senate to vote money to them.
Also, most people lost faith in the government because the aristocracy became more and more indulgent, perverse and corrupt.

The greek democratic system. And rome "fell" partially due to Rome itself (power-wise) splitting in two and forming the byzantine empire. Also the rise of christianity and various religious reasons had a play in it.

rome fell because the barbarian hordes took over parts of the kingdom. it can be likened to the 'balkinization' of the US now. flood of illegal immigrants from various nations that REFUSE to speak english, demand free services and spit on our flag. once i saw DMV and election forms printed in 20 different languages i knew this country was over.
won't be long til the US falls as well. revolutions are fun..ha ha ha....

Actully, much of Americas governmental system was founded on the Iroqouis Confederacy, and the New York state goverment system, with a balance of order between the branches, with no one with to much power.
