I was just in the football forum and I wanted to get some true hip-hop heads take on this Mike VIck thing. Multiple people arestating that Hip hop is responsible for his downfall, and that the HIp-hop culture can't be seperated from this "thugish, gang" culture.
In my opinion Hip hop was created as a voice for an underrepresented cuture that had adapted in order to survive.
I just wanted your input on this.

i agree wit u and yea i knwo all bout commercialized radio hiphop but i also listen 2 real hiphop...and ppl dont know..they stereotype EVERYTHING, and from wuut they hear of hiphop and the "gangsta" "ghetto" hiphop culture (u know, drugs, alcohol, sex, gangs, hoes, etc.) they think its all bad...and comercialized hiphop culture 2 many parents like my own, makes them sick..i dont really like it either..i enjoy all kinds of hiphop..im 14, so of course i like the catchy, snap music, stuff u hear on the radio (even tho its kinda bullcrap)..cuz its catchy and i guess fun...but unlike some easily influenced kids, i dont take the bad, inappropriate, degrading, meaningless lyrics 2 heart...my parents think im all ghetto and easily influenced, so they think if i hear and inappropriate lyrics in rap songs that say like "smoke weed everyday " for example, theyd think im dumb enough 2 listen 2 them and do that. HELL NO! what do they thin k i am? i know wuts right and wroong, and just cuz i think commercialized rap and hiphop is sometimes catchy (im 14, come on).....i dont look up 2 these ppl, and very few of them i like (the person themself)...even if theyre hot lol.......but i do know what real hiphop is & where it originated from....that doesnt mean in real hiphop they never swear or talk about the bad stuff...but theyre not promotin it the way commercialized stuff is...theyre tellin it like it is on the streets and their stories....i told my parents that but they dont care as long as they curse or say anythin bad they dont want me near it...but at least when they talk bout it in real hip hop its not makin it sound good or fun..and they have lyrics wit meaning....sometimes use metaphors wordplay, and symbolism.....lyrics in mainstream stuff ..when i hear them...it doesnt go 2 my heart or brain or soul (i know sounds corny)...it just stays on the surface (symbolically)... i mean i cant connect wit the lyrics cuz theyre kinda dumb and meaningless..but in real hiphop no matter how bad it is either, at least it MEANS somethin and 4 me, it goes beneath the surface cuz its deep and the lyrics are like poetry..clever, witty, intelligent...so i agree with u ..and the thing wit Vick....i mean maybe if hes into commercialized hiphop culture (gangs, drugs, hoes, sex, chains, grillz, etc.)..i dunno maybe that kinda got him into it but honestly thhats his choice 2 do that....but i don think u can really blame hiphop..come on, he's a big boy, cant he think for himself? hope i helped. :)

Hip hop has nothing to do with the Mike Vick situation. It may seem that way because there are hip hop artist that do have many pitbulls like Big Boi, and DMX, but Mike Vick was on some other s h i t. Vick was involved in dog fighting and killing dogs, it was even reported that dogs were hung or drowned. There aint nothing hip hop about that. Dog fighting is an underground gambling culture that is prevalent in communities where the majority of the participants MAY listen to hip hop music.
It sucks that hip hop has to take another black eye because of the ignorance of Mike Vick. What he was involved in was horrible, but the people who do blame hip hop are very very misinformed.

Hip Hop is universal man. I've been to places where you have all kinds of people just having fun. Hip hop is suppose to unite people and express how we as the people feel. Hip Hop is only alive when the true fans express it, or listen to it. Hip Hop is about feeling good, the news for the ghetto, uniting people. The t.v. and radio rap is built on the thugish gangster side which is all the none hip hop fans see and hear. Real hip hop is performed on stage.

hip hop was all about a culture man b boys and graf writers and people just collabin and makin some good music somewhere along the way from that time to today we lost the sense of that and got jealous and greedy and rappers always tried to get the more valuable materialistic object than the other, thugin and hustlin and all that originated from gangster rap and everyone thinks that what hip hop is all about and neglect the whole culture that surrounds the music. haha sorry for the run on
stay up
