I understand that its to kill innocent lifes, cause panic, & spread fear. But why? Whats the point?

Because they equate fear with respect.

Did you hear that Mariane Pearl, widow of Daniel Pearl is suing al Qaeda and other terrorist groups and the Habib Bank Limited of Karachi for knowingly providing financial services for them?

Hopefully it will set a precedent and terrorist will go bankrupt from the flood of lawsuits.

BTW, "A Mighty Heart" with Angelina Jolie is based on the Pearls.

It gets the point across. Those PETA people can be considered as terrorists. Pouring animal blood on innocent people's fur coats. Causing fear to support there cause.
