the key to these types of questions is knowing the conversion factor. we know that 4.5 litres equals one gallon, but we have to know how many litres equals 1 cubic metre. SI units can be found in most textbooks or Wikipedia and this tells us that there are 1000 litres in one cubic metre.
So from this we think that 4.5L in one gallon therefore 1000L has (1000/4.5) 222.22 gallons.
