Yes. The media tries to push its ideals onto the American public by promoting certain lifestyles, choices and behaviors and demonizing the opposite of those behaviors.
For example, take abortion. People who are pro-life are ALWAYS labeled "anti-choice" or "anti-abortion" by the media. the media always uses the negative-sounding "anti-" prefix to label those who stand up for human life. Likewise, the deathmongers are always labeled as "pro-choice", with the positive-sounding "pro-" prefix. They always use convenient wording to alter the perception of something, like "women's health care" and "reproductive rights" which are codewords for abortion, and "terminating a pregnancy" instead of "killing a child". They also portray pro-lifers as "against women's rights", which couldn't be further from the truth. Since when is abortion a "right"? I don't remember seeing anything about that in the US Constitution or the Bill of Rights, however I DO remember seeing something about the "right to live" in there.
The last 35 years of media brainwashing have been responsible for the "80/70 Phenomenon". This is where 80% of Americans believe that abortion is the intentional killing of a human being, while at the same time, 70% believe it should be allowed. How is this possible? It seems that over the years, people have swallowed the garbage that "I wouldn't do it myself, but I don't believe I have the right to tell my neighbor not to do it." Would they use this same reasoning for child molestation, prostitution, or drugs?
Hitler said that if you tell a lie long enough, and loud enough, and often enough, the people will believe it. Well, he was right on that point.

Americans are being brainwashed by the government. The conservative-biased media is only the catalyst - the propaganda machine - for the government's illicit activity.
The 'fourth estate' used to be the guardian of the people, a watchdog that looked out for the people's interests.
Today, the media is 'big business' that only looks out for its bottom line, and feeds off the government-provided press releases without so much as an iota of skepticism, a modicum of doubt, or a morsel of genuine investigation.
The modern 'media' is the government's mouthpiece (especially the Hitleresque-like Fox "News" and the narcissistic Rush Limbaugh hatefest). -RKO- 07/19/07

Yes, and cigarsnbrew has an excellent point about the choice to stay ignorant. Except that ignorance isn't bliss. It's expensive.

The media are most definitely brainwashing all who pay attention to it. The media are training you to be an indentured servant to the advertisers who support the media. You want examples? How about 5- and 6-year car loans, 50-year home mortgages, huge student loan debt, never-ending credit card debt -- we accept these terrible terms only because we've been brainwashed into wanting stuff regardless of how much it costs. Americans are becoming indentured servants to the ruling -- oops I meant corporate -- class. Are you free or are you enslaved by the debt hanging over your head? Yeah, ignorance isn't bliss. It's expensive, very expensive.

Yes when they try to get your mind off the real issues with sensational stuff about Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole Smith, etc. Fox is #1 outlet for the white house and it's been proven that they spend hours of tabloid news.
