I don't know what kind of sex ed is age appropriate for 5 year olds. I have little kids and I think Obama is losing my vote with this one.

Sex education is an expensive failure. It was meant to reduce the rate of teen pregnancy. That is how it was sold in the dim dark past. Wherever it has been introduced, the teen pregnancy rate has gone up. The idea that you teach someone how to drive a car and then say to him or her, that this is a great thing, but you cannot do it till you are much older, is utterly ludicrous.
What should be done, is that the contraceptive pill should be sold at the supermarket, as in Thailand, so that doctors and pharmacists do not have an interest in promoting its sale. Supermarkets carry so many goods that contraceptives are an unlikely major revenue earner. Further, no assurance that this is the right thing is available from the check out girl or boy, unlike the doctor, but you should have to show identity that you are over 18 years old.
Planned Parenthood has a desperate interest in marketing its services for teen abortions, birth control pills and sex education. Planned Parenthood's founder was Margaret Sanger, the eugenicist [get rid of defective people and defective races], euthanasia advocate, and a Leftist crazy.

I read in a Mallard Fillmore strip, "Under a liberal government your child will learn to multiply before he learns to divide" . but Kindergarten! I come from a very sexual school and I learned only the concept of sex in late 5th grade. Sex ed with the kindergarten kids is just downright crazy. Many children who goes to kindergarten will do things anyways without thinking about the consequences even if they are informed about the consequences. For example: I swallowed glue in kindergarten days after the teacher told us glue is not food. What is Obama trying to do, let kindergarten kids have sex early so they wont have sex when they are 13. The liberals have been bickering the case of censoring television, magazine, and other form of press which is full of sex with this statement, "parents job". Such hypocrites they are, they try to clean it up by pressuring teachers to talk to them instead of parents. It is the liberals who support this kind of press that create the idea that sex is ok before marriage and the idea that you can have sex with anyone you like. The parents will jump on the teacher and school administration for things that they cannot help. The parents are more trustworthy towards the child than the teacher or some random person. I agree with Mitt, the whole early sex ed deal will only encourage kindergarteners.

Absolutely not.
Sexual education for children is something parents must impart. And must be approached as the questions arise.
This is just another attempt by the left to further distance parents from their roles in their children's lives.
Parents have got to stand up against this madness, already, and take back the responsibility of parenting.
The future demands action on this front.
If left to the conveyor belt education system we will not be able to recognize our offspring.

Oh crap!
And where the hell are the parents?
Sorry but I think parents should be handling this kind of thing (at any age) and who is to decide "what" is "age appropriate?"
Schools have their hands full already, adding this to the fire would only make it worse! No wonder our Public schools are going to crap, teacher's are so busy trying to be "mini" parents that they are no longer "teaching" . . instead they're just babysitting.
Parents across this nation need to step up and actually "parent", stop leaving it to the schools. (and parents complain about their rights are going)
What's next, condems and birth control pills for third graders?
Obama is *****ing crazy!

This is absolutely sick! A five year old barely knows that boys and girls are attracted to each other! As many of the above posters said, this is the parents job and Obama is stepping over the line. He can raise his children in whatever way he sees fit, but he doesn't need to make that choice for other people. Funny, considering liberals are for pro-choice in abortions, but obviously not when it concerns parenting.

No, but I am glad he said this. He shows that liberals really believe they have more rights than parents.
Not only should sex not be brought up at that age, the Adam and Steve type books need to stay out. Liberals wonder why so many parents are opting to home school

Helllllllll nah! That is a parents job. Let the government run schools FIRST get reading, writing, and arithmetic taught successfully. They haven't got THAT right yet! I don't believe that they will either.

They are my kids and I'll tell them about sex when they are ready, not when some board of education decides they are.
I think it's entirely inappropriate for any adult other than the Childs parents to discuss sex with 5yr olds.
Update: It's got absolutely nothing to do with sexual hang-ups and everything to do with a parents right to decide when and how.

As a parent I believe it's my job. I hope that all parents take their job seriously. I would be upset if this happened to my kids, I don't think they are ready for it yet. As an educator, I think this is inappropriate. Schools that do so would also have to be very careful if they wanted to avoid lawsuits from angry parents. Good job for Mitt standing up for his values.

***I*** am the parent! I will decide WHEN my child is ready--NOT Obama, or Hillary or "the village". My daughter (just out of Kindergarten) already knows her private parts are PRIVATE. My husband and I have already taught her that. If a parent can't handle THAT I have no objection to the school or church OFFERING a 'family assembly' to parents and their child (when the parent feels their child is ready) but no one will teach my child anything I, as the parent deem inappropriate and NOT before I feel she is ready.
