They should be made to remove them. What good does a picture on a license do otherwise? - They don't like it for religious reasons, then I guess they need to stick to their religious values and not drive. Same goes for taxi drivers who refuse to give rides to people who have alcohol with them - they should not be allowed to be taxi drivers. Same for workers in grocery stores who refuse to ring up pork - they should not work in grocery stores.

The whole point of the photograph is for identification. If the person can cover up his or her face then the photograph is worthless.

There have been times when the law has overridden religion. The idea of multiple wives is a part of some religions, yet that is not legal in the US. The idea of slavery is a part of some religions but that is not legal in the US. Human sacrifice is a part of some religions but is not legal in the US.

Also, there are times when law has overridden other rights. The KKK cannot be in public with their faces covered. That is against the law now. It can be easily be argued that it is a form of free speech though. However, the idea of removing anominimity of the KKK members was in the idea of a safer society.

The point is that just because it is in a person's religion does not mean that it is protected from law.

If their not willing to take it off the niqaabs/burqas then don’t ask the state for permission to drive. Driving is a privilege and the license is to show proof the individual is aloud to drive. So if you can’t see the face then what good is it?

I think it's sort of pointless to NOT make them remove their head/face covering. What's the point in getting a driver's license if their face isn't going to be shown on it? How would someone know if it was really their license? How could they use it as a photo ID? Religion or not, we have rules in this country. Take it off really quick, get your picture taken, then put it back on. Keep your driver's license hidden until you truly have to take it out. What's the big deal?

Think of it this way, if you went to Africa and found a tribe who ran naked, would it be OK to be naked here. NO, of course not. "OUR" Society has morality and values and laws and these need to be followed. If some one wants to wear a Burqa (sp?) they MUST take off that "hat" or gear and get their picture taken just like anyone else, or it could be say a terrorist under there in disquise..or anyone for all we know. No head gear period, This is America, speak English, follow our laws, and if not leave our country. Personally, I believe if you come here, act like an American, this is not "little cuba, or little mexico, or little china'.little Italy or little anything else. This is The United States of America people, make foreigners follow the rules and if not they are welcome to leave. We should NOT change for them, it's OUR country!.

Even religion is bounded by law in matters of public safety.

If my religion is to take illegal drugs or stockpile weapons I will not be allowed to. Same thing here.

Furthermore in our country driving is a privilege, not a right. They have the right to wear a veil. The state has the right to deny them a license.

They should not wear it

It's also some people's religion they could argue to stone to death a women for having sex outside of marriage or something but of course that would not fly in a USA court now would it?

The concept of the picture ID is to have a confirmed relation between the picture and the person.

Disagree. The point of a license is to provide photographic identification. Religion or not, the woman's facial features must be visable.

they should remove.
if I have to show my face, then so should everyone else.

Can you even drive properly with burqas on? Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to share the road with someone that's covered head to toe in a sheet.

ps-this question is pointless since if a woman has to wear a burqa, chances are she's not allowed to drive.

They should have to remove them because the picture is for identification purposes. If they don't want to take it off for the picture then they don't get licensed. Driving is a privilege not a right, if you want to drive do what you are required to in order for them to issue a license.
