What's a Tourniquet?

I think that's how you spell it. There is an Evanescence song called Tourniquet but I have no idea what tourniquet means.
The song goes "My god, My tourniquet. Return to me salvation."

it's when you tie something around a limb that is bleeding real bad to stop it from bleeding.

Anything can be used, like a belt or cloth.

Whenever you do this, you should write a "T" on the person's forehead along with the time the tourniquet was applied. This will let the doctors know how long the limb has been without blood to determine if the limb can be saved.
