Every time I hear the phrase "estranged husband" in the news, it's always in a story about how the estranged husband in question either killed or attemped to kill his wife. Why is this the case? I'm always asking myself this question whenever I come across it on the news, most recently when I heard about a woman that was shot and killed while singing on stage and her estranged husband was the one responsible, and I can't seem to find any answers.

The short answer to your question is rage and despair.

One of the greatest commitments one can make is marriage. Everything is put into such a commitment, like love, time, fortune and pleasure. When it is lost you get enraged that it is not there. Then the hopelessness and loss sets in; that the one great source of pleaseure and fortune is gone.

Rage and despair mix to where he/she strikes out and there is nothing further to lose. So the action become extreme, unfortunately in some instances one or both are dead.

It is a sad tale that is repated all too often.

Estranged marriage means that they are separated. I think that in some cases this can be very dangerous due to the fact that someone has left someone else. Usually the men (or women) who harm their estranged spouse have a history of violent or controlling behavior. Their spouse has finally gotten up the nerve to leave and they react with violence. I believe it is the whole mentality of controlling people. You know, "If I can't have him/her then no one will. How dare they think they can just leave me!". That sort of thinking seems to lead to these types of crimes. Most people nurse their broken heart and then move on. An abusive person will punish someone who leaves them. Really, I have always found those stories to be quite sad.
