My wife was a sorority girl and used to be able to drink a lot. When we dated she used to drink when we would go to a club, but I've only seen her drunk twice since I've known her. After we got engaged she all of a sudden stopped drinking around me... I'd buy her a glass of wine at a resturaunt or a margarita while we are out and about but she would barely drink them. She would tell me she is a light weight now and it doesn't take much to get her buzzing. When she goes out with her girl friends however she takes shots, drinks 2-3 glasses of wine, etc. She can't even finish a glass of her favorite wine around me... I don't get it.... Ladies do you know why she is like this? Do you think she is embarressed to be drunk around me?

Its not that I want my wife to be an alcoholic... I don't really drink much myself. I'd rather be the DD than get drunk... but I don't want to be a downer. I've told her if she wants to have a drink its cool with me... I just don't understand why she drinks around her friends and not around me.

Girls night out is not the same as dinner out with the husband.
It's not about you. I can say that when I am out to dinner with my husband I will have maybe 1/2 glass of wine but, if I am out with the girls the drinks go down easier. It's not about being embarrassed. You get into talking and before you know it your on your second and maybe third. Kind of the same when you go out with the guys for 1 beer and will be home at 7 before you know it its 9:30 4 beers later and telling the guys your going to hear it when you get home.

Don't take it personal.

I think you're looking at it all wrong. Maybe now that she's married she no longer wants to be the party girl and wants a home and a family. It's hard to be a partyer and keep a marriage. Alcohol always makes you say and do things you may not normally. When she's out with the girls she just wants to relax with the girls. She probably doesn't want you to think you married a drunk. Be happy about it and let her know that your are because you could be in a marriage with someone who was an alcoholic and then where would you be right now, asking for help to get her to stop drinking!!

What the hell do you want.??? An alcoholic for a wife? This is about a crazy a question as I have read here. Count your blessings, and tell her to cut down on the booze when she is out with her "friends." Obviously, she has to be high or drunk to enjoy them....perhaps it is time to change her friends!

Maybe your right, she is embarrassed by how she acts when she is drunk. Or maybe she doesn't like it when you drink so she doesn't want to drink around you. Obviously she doesn't like to for some reason, so if your really bothered about why she does it, ask her. You guys should be open with each other.

Some people find it more fun to drink in with a larger crowd. I hardly ever drink around my husband, but I will drink at a party where everyone else is drinking.

I wouldn’t think that you being married having your wife being drunk in front of you would be a priority.
Anyway’s it might just be the mood she in.
Sometime its just more fun to drink with lots of friends then just with your husband.

The girls are egging her on and she feels relaxed enough around you to say she can't handle alcohol anymore. She'll get tired of those women getting her drunk soon enough. Hangovers?

Gonna have to ask her, strangers can't speak for her... but I can add that it might be out of respect for you or any number of things
