They have the quilt I gave to this foster daughter and deny it.It took me sooooo long to make. How do I go about getting it back. I am not looking for fault I just want the darn thing back.
My husband and I saw this quilt in this family's Van when they opened the door at a company picnic, not long after they booted her out..
can they keep it if they say she ows them money or anything? They just said they don't have it. and thats a huge lie :(

First, take a photograph of the quilt if possible. Then, file a lawsuit for replevin of your property. If you can't prove they have it, your case will fail.

I don't think there is anyway of getting your quilt back if they are claiming the do not have it. Maybe if they car keeping it in the open in a vehicle you can take a picture through the window and sue them for it on one of the daytime court shows.

This is probably not legal, but if it was me I would start by trying to shame them into giving it back. Write a nice polite letter telling them why the quilt means so much to you. If that doesn't work then send a nastier one to their work place. Tell friends and family....

Told you it wasn't legal, but it sounds like they are just keeping it to get your goat.

First, let's put the blame where it belongs. You gave the quilt to your former foster daughter. It was then hers to do with as she pleased. She apparently chose to abandon it when things went south with your co-worker. Even if, in fact, you LOANED it to the girl, it is still HER responsibility to return it to you, not the co-workers. And, the co-worker may be under some legal obligation to maintain it for a period of time as your former foster child could demand it of them. If they gave it back to you and then the girl demanded it back, then they could be legally responsible for the quilt's value. If the girl is completely out of the picture now, maybe they would be willing to sell it to you for some nominal amount. But they have no LEGAL obligation to YOU.

Once you GIVE something, its gone. And never LOAN anything out that has real value to you.

Make another one, Sometimes battles are not meant to fight and people are more important then that!

I am sorry for your loss and I kow quilts take a lot of time. I am a quilter myself. But you would not want it back now with bad feelings either.
