Unless you know what you are doing stay away from buying coins on line. You need to know how to grade as well as the coins themselves. Each series has its own quirks. There is also a lot of fakes out there in web land. Visit a few coin shops to get the feel of coin in general. Remember you learn more by just being there and keeping quiet. Most dealers don't mind new guys hanging around. Visit as many dealers as you can. I don't recommend anyone on the web, that is not to say that there are not honest dealers there, for there is. Things do happen though, even with them. Over the years I have found the most honest dealers, as well as helpful, do not sell U.S. coins but world coins and ancients.
