I want to take my niece out for the day and wondered if there are any parents out there who have been to anything decent recently? We will probably go to the Natural History Museum as, scandalously, she has not been there yet. Is there anything different that would compliment this? Or 2 totally different things altogether? (I hate touristy stuff generally, so anything obscure would be great) Cheap would be good also, if possible.

I was going to suggest Pollock's Toy Museum in W1 but I'm distressed to find that it has now closed.

The Natural History Museum is absolutely tops and you could follow that up with a trip to the nearby Science Museum and/or the Victoria and Albert Museum.

You could also try Sir John Soane's Museum in Lincolns Inn Fields. Its free to get in and full of all sorts of weird stuff (giant fungus from Sumatra, the sarcophagus of Seti I, etc).

Try the website below for some more ideas.
