Right now I just feed him Hikari Betta Bio-Gold 3 times a day. Anyone else got suggestions on treats or supplements? Also a schedule would be nice.

Hikari Betta Bio-Gold is a really good food for your Betta and you should feed the Betta about 2-3 pellets in the morning ( I feed 2 two pellets) and one freeze dried blood worm at noon. This is what I do everyday and has been working for me. There is many foods you can feed your Betta as treats.

Here is a list of Treats

Brine Shrimp- Is a very good food for a Betta, but tends to be costly

Blood Worms- Some people use these as a treat, but I use it as part of there main diet

Daphina- Another good treat, but has been hard to find for me

Blackworms and Red Tubifex- A good treat, but these worms tend to be big and there has been some strange cases of Betta's choking to death on them( so people cut them up in smaller pieces)

Microworms and Vinegar Eels- These are minute roundworms and are excellent for young Betta's less than a week old and can help increase the number of surviving fry in the early weeks

White Worms and Grindal Worms- Usually used as a conditioning food for "adult" Betta's

Personally, I think you should just feed your Betta the pellets and freeze dried bloodworms(If you choose to) and brine shrimp when you can buy some as a treat.

Hikari pellets are a great food, although I would only feed them twice a day. You can supplement them by giving your betta freeze-dried blood worms once or twice a week (you can find them at any petstore) and tiny pieces of frozen peas that have been thawed and shelled about every three days.

Also, you may want to fast your betta about one day a week. This just allows your betta's digestive system to get caught up and helps to prevent things like swim bladder disorder.

Somebody suggested feeding chicken and hot dogs, that is very unhealthy for a fish. Chicken has a completely different set of daily values than what a Betta needs. Hot dogs don't have anything in them that are good for humans, why would you give it to your fish? Frozen bloodworms and brineshrimp are the best supplements to Hikari. If you feed it 3 times a day, give it 2 pellets each time. However many times you feed it daily, don't give it more than 6 pellets in one day. Good luck!

thats alittel to much, 3 times a day i mean.

fish stomach are 1 1/2 the size of their eyes so bettas dont need to eat that much.. If you feed the fish alot, bowel problems will occur.

It is even better that you skip a day or two to mimic what occurs in the wild.

But hikari betta bio-gold is the leader when it comes to betta food. I would cut down on feedings and feed them once aday.

I had a few bettas growing up and I usually feed them once a day either the freeze dried blood worms, the brine shrimp(they were little cubes that you got wet and stuck them to the side of the tank and the fish ate when it wanted to) or sometimes just regular betta flakes. They are pretty cool fish in a way that they don't need to eat all the time most little pet fish don't need to eat more than once a day.

Betta fish are organic insectivores and prefer a weight loss plan of insect larva and/or bugs. some surprising selections for betta incorporate bloodworms, daphnia, tubifex, wingless fruitflies and greater desirable small pinhead crickets. Betta hardly devour vegetables and while they're fed the popular weight loss plan of bugs, would refuse betta pellets/flakes.

I feed mine betta bites from walmart about 6 pellets at once a day. I treat them to a couple live shrimp once a month and they also like freeze dried blood worms/ baby shrimp. They are happy and vibrant in color, and make their bubble nests all the time. and those are all signs of good health.

Feed your betta 2-3 times a day. Give him no more then what he or she can eat for more than two minutes. Have he/she eat once in the morning say 10:00 a.m then feed it at 5:00 p.m. Then at 9:00 p.m put only a little bit to see if hes still hungry. If he doesnt eat it then only feed him twoce a day. Also feed him different foods. At wal-mart they have freeze dried brin shrip. that is very healthy for them and is a good source of fiber. Also you can give him freeze dried bloodworms. Change his diet every once in a while so he doesnt get tired of his eating. To get him to excerize put a mirror infront of him and hell try to attack the "other guy ". You will have a healthy and happy fish.
