Don't get Algae Eaters, they get 6 inches long and as adult, they become aggressive and attack other fish. Also, Algae Eaters are tropical fish while Goldfish are coldwater fish. Common Goldfish grow to about 14 inches long and each Goldfish requires 40 gallons to itself. because I am going to guess that you don't have a 200 gallon tank with Goldfish, I am going to suggest that you find a new home for the Goldfish in a friend's pond. Email me and let me know what size your tank is. nosoop4u@cox.net
By the way, putting Goldfish in warm water speeds up their metabolism which shortens their lifespan drastically.

First, algae eaters put out more waste than they clean up. Second, if you are cleaning your tank you will never get algae. And, algae eaters can harm goldfish by sucking on theiir sides. Third, five goldfish need at least a 50-75 gallon aquarium, and don't do well with any other fish. They grow to bigger than a foot. You need to do research before getting pets, and not trust minimum wage employees at petstores -- I would return the goldfish and get some cute little mollies, you can get more than 5 fish if you keep them all one to two inches at full growth.

with 5 goldfish i hope you have a 100 gallon tank.
Feeder goldfish are comet goldfish and will reach about 24 inches. So you will need a large tank with a canister filter.
The problem is, you cant really get anymore goldfish unless you have a larger tank. Another thing to stay away from is fancy goldfish.
Goldfish are broken down into classes, Fancy goldfish are class A, singled tailed goldfish are class B, Koi are class c.
You cant really mix the groups... as fancy goldfish will not do well with feeder goldfish.
So i would sugest getting a larger tank for long term success with your goldfish.
Remember that fish are a big responciblity and goldfish i understand wasnt up to you, bu they are not very easy to care for. Yes u can keep them in a 10 gallon, but they will be stunted and die as their internal organs grow but their body doesnt. This is animal curelty, and you really need to get at least 100 gallon tank. with a canister filter.
Will run about 300 dollars after all set up.

My friend and I are goldfish lovers! I have 3 goldfish in a 20 gallon tank and and a cleaner fish. My friend put her goldfish in with her betta fish and they were best friends. When she first got her betta fish she put in a small glass bowl next to the fish tank and let them get used to each then she got one of those special
things that clip on to the side of square tank so that the fish were in the same tank but separate then after a day or two she put them in the same tank and they are fine she feeds them goldfish food!!!!

There are tons of breeds of fish that you can keep with goldies. Just stay away from the freshwater sharks and puffer fish and you should be fine. Honestly, just take a look around a pet shoppe and you'll be amazed at how many fish can mingle with goldies. As for the catfish, I'm not sure. You could always try snails, they have the same effects, but to a lesser degree.

most cats wont eat algea, and are tropical
goldfish are cold water and i would only recomend coldwater fish to go in with them
for the goldfish i would suggest whitecloud mountain minnows, rainbow darters, or sticklebacks (if you can find them)

Well, I have had tropical fish for ages. One day we whent to a wedding and they had gold fish on the tables. We asked the bride if we could have the fish and she said yes.
We put the fish in the tropical tank and they are still alive.
You can get the water warmer, and put in tropical fish. The gold fish wont mind, they actually like it!
