It wasn't in correctly. Don't worry, just take it out and try again.

I hurt taking it out because there wasn't enough liquid in it. Just try putting in another one.

it was hard to remove cos your vagina was dry, and the tampon wasnt fully absorbed. that is normal.

you need to push the tampon in as far as it will go, if it goes in far enough, you wont feel it.

DO NOT use vaseline, as it prevents the tampon from absorbing correctly. use a water based lubricant such as KY jelly or liquid (i prefer liquid, it only takes a drop or two on the tip.)

or, you could buy some o.b. Pro Comfort they dont need added lubrication, and you use your finger to insert them (so they conform with the curves of your body) when i use applicator tampons, they feel uncomfortable and dont work properly. they expand around, not lengthwise to help protect you better and conform to your natural shape.

hope this helps you :)

there is also the INSTEAD cup (www.softcup.com) that you only have to change every 12 hours (or more if you are heavy flowing) and has less chance of giving you toxic shock syndrom.

I would suggest using a different brand. Some tampons when they absorb fluid get longer and become uncomfortable. I had the same problem as a teenager and the only tampons I can use are playtex. There really isn't a "wrong" way to insert a tampon.

I'd take it out if I were you. That doesn't sound right at all! Maybe you need to try a smaller tampon, ie: one for lighter flow.
Also, you don't say what type you're using but you might want to try an applicator tampon, like Tampax. Easier to insert.
Tampons should sit comfortably inside the vagina and definitely should NOT hurt.
Good luck :-)

Take it out and try a new one. If it still hurts call your doctor!

I once put in a tampon and doubled over in pain. Ended up being an ovarian cyst and whenever I put a tampon in it would bump the uterus which would bump the cyst!

edit:
Your muscles may have been contracting due to the pain, relax!

If it is the first time using one, yeah, it is very uncomfortable the first few times. No, you did not put it in wrong. Try unsing tampons that are slim, or less absorbancy. You may have to change them more often, but not as uncomfortable for you.

Try inserting it while in a different position or put a little vasoline on the end of it.
