I know that it is illegal to impersonate a military officer, and I've never been in the military. My step father gave me all of his old Army uniforms, and I could make good use of some of the jackets. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't get into any trouble for wearing them in public.

As long as you're not actually telling people you are an officer, you're fine.

I would take any rank insignia and the name of the service branch off of the uniforms. This way it will just look like a replica uniform. As long as you are not parading around pretending to be in the military, it is perfectly legal to wear military attire.

The problem is that you look like a douchebag. I want to smack these fags that think they're cool wearing a uniform going out in public. Only morons join the military.

Wearing them to walk down the street? Fine. Wearing them to gain access to the White House or a military base? Not so fine!

Take it from me, you'll be fine.

First of all, if we are talking about old uniforms, they have changed over the years. (today's soldier wears digital pattern camo, for instance). Also, these things are sold as surplus anyways.

No more illegal than wearing a civil war uniform.

I use old militray camo when I go hunting for deer. It is no biggie.

You can't have the rank insignia and you can't attend a political function wearing a uniform.

(I'll always laugh about retired Ollie North showing up to his Congressional hearing wearing his Marine officers uniform, yet no penalty).

It's illegal for a civilian to wear a military uniform that is currently issued by the military. Old military uniforms, therefore, don't apply.

Just take the name of the branch of service off and any rank and wear them with pride.
