tongue rings get in the way of everything. you can break your teeth on it, swallow part of it and definitely speak with an impediment until you learn to deal with the swelling and a bar through your tongue.
who cares about what other people think, just imagine dealing with it in your body...
and yes, of course it hurts, just maybe not as much as you anticipate

No, I wouldn't think you were a freak (I know some pretty cool people who hae or want to get tongue rings) or gay (hey, I AM gay, and I have NO intention of getting a tongue ring whatsoever). What I WOULD think is that ur pretty brave It makes me shiver to think of all the things that could go wrong with getting and maintaining a tongue ring.
Unless you got a tongue ring when you already have a nose ring, lip ring and/or eyebrow ring (and plan to wear them all at the same time)... then I'd have to say slow down, to much jewlery on the face DOESN'T look good at all.
I've never heard of a stereotype saying that you're homo if you get a tongue piercing though, is that new? Loves,

Expect misconceptions and stereotyping if you go ahead and get one. It comes as part of the package.
I imagine the piercing would hurt - a lot. But the comments from the misconceptions and sterotyping will hurt a great deal more.

No it dosent or shouldnt hurt when you actually get it done. The pain comes in about 12 to 24 hours into it when it starts swelling. You will just have to eat cold soft foods for about 3 or more days. As far as the sterotype You can hide the tounge ring if you dont open your mouth as wide or stick your tounge out. Bring it out when you need to use it....if you know what I mean....

Yes it hurts!...Why do it because others do.?...If you can not deal with what other people think then you should not get it done. Poking a needle in a place where there are sensitive areas hurts.....a lot!
It's interesting to see how many young people that get something pierced, then do it again and again. It's like tats.... I see women with body art all over themselves. I don't care for it, personally, I find it distasteful.
My own opinion and mine alone.

Lots and lots of people have tounge rings now straight people, gay people, cute people, and ugly people all alike so no I wouldnt think you were gay. It depends on how well you take care of it as to wheter it hurts or not of course the first initial stabbing feeling will hurt.

I wouldn't think either.
The piercing didn't hurt at all, but the three days afterwards were evil. All I did was suck ice cubes to keep the swelling down. But everyone is different.
I had it done about 12 years ago and I've never regretted it.

Most people think it is freaky. I am one of them. All I have heard is how it damages the teeth and makes eating difficult, so why would anyone want to do that, other than to get attention for having it.
