since i got off depo for the first couple of months i was having two periods a month but after a while i started getting regular. i started getting regular in February of this year. i havent touched any b.c. (and will not either) and my last few periods have been very wierd. my breasts hurt pretty much all the time and before i never had cramps and all of a sudden they hurt so bad i dont know what to do. i try a bath ,doesnt work, laying down, doesnt work, and even pain medicine and it still doesnt work.my dads girlfriend told me you start to ovulate 1 week before your period so my hubby and i have extra time during that week. i dont know anything about ovulating other than what my friend said about it being 1 week before your period there were a few times before my period i would wake up in the morning feeling very wierd and very sick. but all my pregnancy tests have been negative. please be patient with me for i think we are trying so hard for something that is not going to happen.

Ovulation does not happen 1 week before your period. Ovulation happens, on average, 14 days before the start of your next period. It can happen anywhere from 10-16 days but about 14 is typical. After ovulation it takes 8-12 days for the fertilized egg to travel back down the fallopian tube and implant into the lining of the uterus. If your period came only a week after ovulation then the embryo wouldn't have time to implant in the uterus and would be washed away with the menstrual flow.

As far as your cramps are concerned -- if you are sure it's your period (full red flow requiring a tampon or pad) take Advil for the pain. Talk to your doctor, but mine said I could take up to 4 at a time 3 times per day. Eat something though because it can really hurt your stomach.

That being said if you think you could be pregnant at all, don't take the Advil because it can have harmful effects on the baby.

You ovulate around day 14 of your cycle, where day 1 is the first day of your last period. Your fertile period is a maximum of 6 days, so you should have sex during this time. To tell if you're ovulating, and if you've been having issues you may want to consider charting. There are several online sites that can help. I am on fertilityfriend.com, but there are others just google for "TTC charting" and you'll find something.

Do not give up, if you guys chart, and have sex in your fertile window it can take up to a year to get pregnant for people who haven't been on BC. If you're on depo it can take up to 2 years to get pregnant after going off of it. The online charting sites are a great place to get support from people who are in the same boat as you.

Take care, and best of luck!

how long have you been off the depo shot,it can take a long time to conceive after it as i know only too well,my first attempt took 18 months and i now have a little girl,my sacond attempt took 12 months ,but sadly i miscarried 6 weeks ago,i am ttc again, the best time to ttc is 14 days after your period starts counting from day 1,thats the day you ovulate, you are infact fertile for 4 days before that and 1 day after,i know it is confusing, but apart from checking your cm(cervical mucus)those dates are guidelines,if you are active for most of those days you have a good chance, but the depo shot does things to your body which makes it so hard to ttc
