Nacnud, you are a knowledgeable Yankee fan living in Boston and could probably answer your own question better than any of us. If the Yankees make it to the world series they would have a good chance to win. However, the biggest problem they have now is getting to the playoffs. The are 7 behind and gaining and will probably have to be the division winner to go to the playoffs since the wild card is likely to come from the AL central. I will say this, I am not one to write off the Yankees, just yet, because they are a solid team that has the ability to win. It will be interesting to watch them try to reel in the Red Sox and it is likely to be a very close finish.

Ok, let's have a history lesson here shall we?
2006 Cardinals win the WS based on strong pitching / good defense.
2005 White Sox win the WS based on strong pitching
2004 Red Sox win the WS based on strong pitching
2003 Marlins win the WS based on strong pitching

see where I'm going here? The Yankees have an offense (if they all play like they should) that can break most records, however the Pitching staff is ill-equiped to handle a postseason run. I think Wang's great, Pettite's good, but what from Clemens, Mussina or Igawa (or pick a #5 starter) makes you beleive that they can win a short series?

I'd take about 4-5 other teams over the Yankees this year in any playoff series.

Tigers: Verlander, Rogers, Bonderman
Red Sox: Beckett, Matsuzaka, Schilling (ok maybe not Schilling)
Angels: Lackey, Escobar, Weaver
Indians: Sabathia, Lee, Westbrook

I know you're a huge Yankees fan and don't want to admit the truth, but even after winning 7 in a row, they're still 7 behind in the AL East and won't catch up, sorry.

None, because they aren't going to the World Series. Tigers have the best offense, best starting pitching rotation, and a bullpen that has kept them in 1st place in the AL while two of their better set-up men have been injured.

Sorry, Yankees are going to have to make a huge trade for some decent bullpen or a big bat at 1st base to make the playoffs.

0 because they won't be there. It's been a while since I've seen you on. You dissapeared when the Yankees were losing there. Could be just a coincidence but you should back your team all the time, not just when they start winning.

how many more people do you think now hate the Yankees because of your posts?

Yanks in 6.. they have slightly greater suitable pitching and their offense is beginning off to tutor the nook with RISP now.. Phillies are stable, yet can their pitching look after this offense?? we can see, however the Yanks win in 6, would desire to be a great series although..
