I have two guppies and one black molly. About a week ago I began noticing that one of my guppies was getting alot bigger in size; ballooning up. I thought she was a female and pregnant at that; but there was no gravid spot at all, let alone one becoming bigger and darker. I thought that maybe she just didnt have one. I also began noticing that her body, around her anal fin, is bent. Yesterday night, upon even further notice, I noticed that "she" is actually a "he"! I found the gonopedium (correct spelling?). I know my other guppy is a boy because he's more brightly colored with a large and distinctly noticeable gonopedium, but now this one's a boy? Anyways, so I have a male guppy that looks pregnant, with a bent body. Is my guppy really a pregnant female with no gravid spot, or is it a male with some disease? I need to figure out what is going on here, I'm beginning to lose sleep. Anything helps, any advice, personal experience. But, please, especially experienced guppy owners. Thanks!

I can't post a picture, because I don't have a digital camera or a scanner (so I couldn't use a disposable camera). I'm really sorry for the inconvience and I know you guys are trying to help me and it means alot. How much he/she's stomach is ballooned is similar to this picture: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://guppyplace.tripod.com/preghby.jpg&imgrefurl=http://guppyplace.tripod.com/FAQS.html&h=157&w=204&sz=8&hl=en&start=6&um=1&tbnid=vXIOs3SpTVSJPM:&tbnh=81&tbnw=105&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpregnant%2Bguppy%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX

No gravid spot though, and the view from the top has a bent tail that is bent at around the area of the anal fin. And a few minutes ago I checked on her and she was secreting a ball of whitish/clear stuff from her anus. I don't know what's wrong, it's awful.

She definately started to give birth, the little dropping you saw is an unfertilazed egg and you may see more of them
It's not necessary that your guppy has a black gravid spot as you can see on the first picture of the link you provided
Keep a close eye on her, you will see her giving birth to babies very soon, as soon as all the unfertilized eggs are out of her

i think it is fish Dropsy. Dropsy is not very contagious; however, if a fish is diagnosed with dropsy, it is important to remove it from the aquarium as soon as possible. If there are multiple fish, treat the afflicted fish in a specially established "sick tank" (Quarantine). Dropsy can spread from the ill fish, possibly causing stress among the other fish in the tank community. This extra stress may make the others vulnerable to dropsy or other forms of disease.

Treatment may consist of antibiotics targeting the causative agent. They work best in the very early stages of dropsy. A more hands-on approach is to raise the aquarium's temperature a few degrees- slightly higher than usual. Adding Epsom salts to the water at (a rate of 20 mg/L)helps to encourage the fish to expel unnecessary damaging fluids.

Gasping for air is an illustration that the water high quality is damaging. i might advise finding out your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate stages, yet do no longer use plastic strips. API's freshwater finding out kit is the perfect possible for that. The water exchange ought to help. Did you cycle the tank earlier? What different fish are contained in the tank? If it incredibly is a newly set up aquarium, then your fish are probable affected by new tank syndrome - it incredibly is totally effortless between newbie fishkeepers. They forget to cycle the tank, or do no longer even understand something with regards to the nitrogen cycle, and each little thing starts going downhill while they upload the fish. Your fish ought to start to advance after a water exchange. If the tank isn't cycled, in simple terms bypass approximately appearing a fish-in tank cycle. you will ought to alter the water each few days (approximately 25%) to maintain immaculate water high quality.

there is a good probability your fish has whats called dropsy. It is a sign of kidney failure. Look at their scales, if they look raised (sorta like a pinecone) then you can be sure. There is no medicine for dropsy. I had two bettas that had it but i nursed them back to healyh by feeding them (believe it or not) peas! Smush the peas in your fingers so the inside comes out and drop it in your fish tank. It is a softer food that is easier to digest than other foods. Quarantine the sick fish if possible. good luck

I've heard this before, that guppy IS a female. she retook(for lack of a better word) her eggs. they redissolved into her body. she saw that this was not a fit place to have babies(enviormental issues) or she was unhealthy and needed the extra nutrition from the eggs. she will not have babies. you can conferm my thoughts by looking at the whight stringy stuff you described earlier, if it looks like it has tiny air bubbles in it what i said is true. hope that helps bye! P.S. google it!
