Do Republicans or anyone really know the consequences of US troop withdrawal? I doubt if anyone is going to make nice with each other over there. They have been fighting one another for over 3000 years and have managed to settle differences their way all that time. Why should now be any different? Whether we leave now or 20 years from now the potential for chaos will exist as it always has. The difference is that countries will have expended lives and fortunes and when all is said and done nothing new will have been accomplished.
In the US Declaration of Independence it states that governments exist by the consent of the governed. If the Iraqis want their current government to succeed it will and if they don't it will fail. It is THEIR government. We can only do so much. They have told us we can leave any time and I think we should honor that request. We got rid of Saddam for them. We don't need to babysit or hold their little hands until they look just like us.
If our leaving causes more Iraqi bloodshed so be it. At least it is not American blood being shed. Cons are against nation building and claim that the war is not over oil. There were no WMD found in Iraq that were of any use. Saddam, as evil as he was at least was a stabilizing influence in the region. What we have now is destabilization.

They know what the consequences of staying is. And they think they have a better option. You can't possibly "know" things like this until they are implemented, but you can make pretty good guesses. For example, the generals didn't "know" that they needed 600,000 troops to control Iraq, but that is what they asked for because that was part of their plan.

Yes. Upon our withdrawal, Iraq will soon face a three-front civil war. Upon conclusion of this war, Iraq will no longer exist, and will be replaced with three separate nations, one probably a Sunni-led Islamic fundamentalist regime, one a potentially democratic Shia-led regime, and one a potentially democratic Kurdish state.
This will happen whenever we withdraw. The only way to prevent it will be if we stay forever, which will keep the insurgency going forever, and keep us in the role of security for another nation. If this what Republican want?

They know the consequences of troop withdrawl, quite well.
More importantly they know the consequences of leaving the troops in Iraq, in a war you had no business starting in the first place.

Most Democrats, that know their stuff, realize what the consequences will be and that's why there in such a hurry to get out. That way they can blame it all on George Bush, whereas if a Dem is president, well then, that's a different story.

Iraq already has a government that was voted in by its people. If that government fails after the US leaves, then the blood should be on the Iraqis and not the US. Countless billions (maybe trillions) of dollars have literally been flushed down the Iraqi toilet. Every school kid with a 3.0 or higher average for High School could go to a good college for all the money wasted in Iraq. That or one Hell of a taxbreak for the citizens.

They can't know any less about the withdrawal consequences than the Rep did of putting them in.

I don't think anyone knows unless they are a profit. All I have to base my opinion on is the past (Vietnam) and if you look up that history and at the "Killing Fields of Cambodia" history says don't pull out. That is my 2 cents worth on the issue.
