Well because that atmosphere is 3/4 nitrogen, then the most abundant gas we breathe into our lungs is nitrogen, however we just exhale it back out. Our lungs only absorb the oxygen for use in cellular respiration to turn nutrients into energy for our bodies to function.
Sounds like a trick question to me, ask for clarification from your teacher he/she will appreciate your effort and interest.

We inhale air in its natural atmospheric form, so nitrogen is the gas that enters our bodies at the greatest rate. However, none of the nitrogen is used in human respiration; only the oxygen is used. The nitrogen is exhaled along with the carbon dioxide that results from respiration, but the nitrogen has not undergone any chemical reactions as a result of its passage through the body.

Nitrogen. Our bodies filter out the oxygen from all the other gases in the lungs.

we breathe air, which is a mixture of gases and as you rightly said is 3/4ths nitrogen.
however, if your question is what we respirate (ie what the lungs linings capture instead of breathing out) then the only gas is oxygen.

I believe mostly oxygen and nitrogen. But if you were to breathe in lots of oxygen, you wont have to breathe right away

We inhale air which is 78% nitrogen, but our bodies only utilize the Oxygen for metabolic processes.
BTW your screen name...it should be El nino, or La nina (depending on your gender), not what you have posted.....
