It hasnt just gotten so popular, its always been popular in certain circles, its gone on for hundreds of years. Its just been more "underground" for the last 30-40 years. But its never stopped. People are holding organised dog fights regularly, but unless you are part of the underground crowd, you wouldnt have heard much about it, the meets are held in deserted barns or fields in the middle of no-where, at least here in the UK. But people are waking up to the fact that this still goes on, things are being publicised a bit more by those who are out to stop this, and joe public is hearing about more cases, thats all. Its barbaric, and makes me feel sick. I own 2 so-called "fighting" dogs, they are much loved and Id never put them through this...they are my babies..lol..and are as soft a butter. Its the owners that are at fault, not the dogs.

Dog fighting and cockfighting have always been around and have always been popular. If it wasn't for the Vick story it would still be underground. I think it's awful personally. Just like horse racing, greyhound racing, 4h auctoins, and basically every other kind of animal competition. In the big picture though, there are far greater tragedies in the world to worry about.

It makes me shudder too. But there are "people" (if they can be regarded as human beings) who like watching it. In other words, they enjoy knowing that other living things suffer.
