I know you have seen them and thought the same things. You know the people that work for Wal-Mart and stand by the exit with a highlighter and look at you. Then ever know and then they stop somebody and mark their receipt without really looking at it. My main question is WHAT R THEY THERE FOR?

But what is the marking of the receipt with a highlight for, and if it is to prevent stealing why don't they mark everybodies.

They are called: GREETERS.
They mark your receipt, as you mentioned, they give you a pink sticker for your product, if you are returning- prevents anyone from walking through the store & "returning" something w/o even having purchased it first.
They pull out shopping carts for you.

Iv only seen that in k-mart, in walmart they have a sticker system to mark return purchases. In k-mart however they use this to ensure that nobody has stolen any merchandise, if you come out with a bag you gotta show them the receipt or what you have in that bag may be confiscated and you could be accused of theft. But if you seen this in Wall-mart that's awkward because they just use the alarm system to check if people are stealing or not...ha ha must be a pretty cheep Wall-mart where you live huh?

The greeters are for public relations and low level security. Their supposed to be checking to make sure poeple aren't bringing stuff in to swap with new merchandise & that they actually have a recipt when they leave. Some people will try sneaking in bags , fill them, then try walking out like they paid. If the greeter is really doing their job they'll catch that kind of theft . Their also near the doors so they can lock them to prevent someone from escaping.

The people next to the doors at Wal-Mart are called "greeters". They are there, as the name implies, to greet you as you come into the store, but also to check your returns as they come in, and to help prevent theft and loss.

They are there for annoying the hell out of you..lol
Theft protection and customer service!
A lot of items have electronic devices that are attached to them, sometimes when you pay for them the cashier forgets to scan them and when you walk out the door they buzzer goes off, very embarresing!
Anyways it is there job to make sure you paid for it, so no they don't look at the whole reciept just for that item!
