In nature, in the "eat-or-be-eaten" reality, it is not the mightiest EATER who survives. It's the cleverest species that HIDES the best and is least messed with and avoids getting eaten that survives. I would say, in that regard, the Eskimo nation is the most clever, and some Mongolian nomads.

The UN says Norway has the highest Standard of Living, a poll a few years ago found Icleand to be the overall "happiest" nation. Anyway it is definitely going to be a West European nation.

I would go for Japan, if you think about how many people they lost in the second world war and how they were devistated by the bombs they have not only re build so well but advanced themselves into the most tech savy nation on earth.

Switzerland is my answer. They have stayed out of wars way more than France even and they are not part of the UN, EU, or any big organization. They got the Nazi gold and it is still sitting in their accounts. The Swiss just sit back and seem to be in their own little world tucked up in the mountains. That seems pretty clever to me.
