At 12 weeks, the femur bone of your baby will measure 8 mm (0.315 inches) from the hip to the knee. Look at a ruler to let that sink in. Now, think about how small a penis (or vaginal lips, which make up the 3 white lines) would be. Even if a technologist tells you boy or girl, I wouldn't count on it being accurate. Then again, the tech. does have a 50/50 chance of getting the sex right!
By 20 weeks, the femur bone measures about 33 mm (about 1.3 inches). At that point, you will have a much better chance of seeing genitalia. Best wishes to you!
At the following website, you can see the femur measurements by week of pregnancy:

The genitals are not formed until around 15 weeks. However, even then they are still very small and hard to detect on an ultrasound. The sex can't usually be detected on an ultrasound until at least 18 weeks. Although that also depends on the position of the baby, the experience of the u/s tech and the quality of the u/s equipment. Your baby is so small now that until this point you could not hear the heartbeat with a doppler.

At 12 you won't be able to see the gender, but you probably will enjoy the ultrasound more. The baby is so small they can only do very basic measurements, so most of the time you just get to see your baby wiggle. At your 20 week ultrasound they can usually see the gender, but then you spend 20 min while the tech looks at all the bones and organs, which, while important, is much less exciting that seeing your WHOLE baby on the screen waving hi to you. Have fun at your appointment. :)

No, ultrasounds can't tell at only 12 weeks, but around 18-20 they can IF the baby is in a good position to 'see', and the tech knows what they're looking at. No way to know for SURe at any point without an amnio, and they don't do those just to tell the sex.

Oh no, the babies sexual organs don't distinctually develop until the 14th week. They are developing right now but they aren't distinct like they will be in a week or two. It's very early to tell. Some tell at 16 wks and some have to wait until the 20-23rd week becuase of baby position etc. But if you have a good tech and good ultrasound equipment you're usually going to be successful the 17-18th week. Any earlier and there may be a mistake or it's just to hard to tell. Hang in there! I know it's so exciting and you just can't wait to see, been there!

I incredibly have heard the better the guts fee the greater probable you're having a boy yet i do no longer likely have confidence all that.i'm at 17 weeks and the medical doctors won't be in a position to often tell till 20 weeks by ultrasound. I incredibly have a e book referred to as a newborn is born that asserts by a vaginal digicam that your toddler has developed into the intercourse at 8 weeks. Its an extremely stable e book. i'm hoping you have what your coronary heart desires yet incredibly its as much as daddy's genes to ascertain the babies destiny!!

Actually, my US at 11 almost 12 weeks did tell me. The doctor said it was 80% the gender of what was told, and it was the same at the 16 almost 17 week US.
By the way, they look at the position of a line between the legs of the baby to tell.

Ususally they can't determine the sex until about 4 months pregnant which would be 16 weeks. So the 18 week schedule should definitely show what sex the baby is.

I think 16 weeks is the earliest you can tell by ultrasound, doctors usually do one 18-20 weeks and as long as the baby is cooprative you should find out then.
