last night when i was laying in bed i had the biggest contraction ever! it lasted about 2 minutes and usually they aren't painful, but this one was very uncomfortable to the point of pain then nothing else happened after that. just out of curiosity does this mean labor isn't too far away? i am 32 weeks along. i'm just looking for opinions or similar experiences, not medical advice :) thanks!

I had the same thing at about 34 weeks. Didn't mean a thing. Its highly likely that it was just a Braxton Hicks. They can be just as painful as "real" contractions. Remember, if the contractions stop or get less painful when you change positions or walk around, then they aren't "real". Best of Luck with your pregnancy.

Is it possible that you might have been slightly dehydrated? When I was pregnant with my third baby I ended up in the hospital twice (28 weeks and 30 weeks, both times in July) with horrible pain. It was like a super-long and painful contraction that just would not let up. (Labor contractions rarely last two minutes, even in transition, and they don't tend to start so strong.) They gave me an IV which helped pretty quickly. I assumed there was some powerful drug in it, but it was pretty much just water. An ultrasound showed that I had a lot of amniotic fluid, and the midwife said I might require more water than most people to avoid dehydration. After those two episodes I was scared for labor to start for real, but it ended up being completely normal, one day past my due date, and no more painful than my other two had been. I hope yours was a one-time thing and that you go on to have a healthy birth when your baby is ready. Good luck.

Welcome to Braxton Hicks contractions. Until they start happening really close together for a long period of time, you're not going into labor. Good luck! I had contractions sometimes hours apart and sometimes 5 minutes apart and then nothing for a few hours for a couple of days.

it could be one hell of a braxton hicks contraction. But im sure at this point youve heard the drill, if you start timing them and when they are closer to 4-5 minutes apart then call your doctor.

You just experienced intense braxton hicks contractions. Normal during end of pregnancy! Be sure to watch out for it..and time it.

no- these are just braxton hicks. They come and go. I had one walking through the grocery store. I had to stop and stand there until it went away. As long as you don't start having them in regular intervals
