Throughout pregnancy, a mucus plug blocks the opening of the cervix to prevent bacteria from entering the uterus. Before labor, this mucus plug is expelled so that the cervix can open to allow the baby to pass through during labor and birth.
How soon after my mucus plug passes will labor begin?
Passing a mucus plug is a sign that your cervix is dilating and your body is starting to prepare for birth. Labor could be hours, days, or even weeks away as the cervix gradually opens over time.
What does a mucus plug look like?
A mucus plug may be clear, slightly pink or blood tinged in color. It may be stringy mucus or sticky discharge. Some women may not even notice the loss of their mucus plug because there is already an increase in vaginal discharge during pregnancy.
When should I call my health care provider?
If the mucus seems normal in color, there is no need to contact your health care provider immediately. You may just want to let them know at your next visit.
You should call your health care provider immediately if your discharge suddenly becomes bright red and the amount is more than an ounce (about two tablespoons). You could be experiencing a complication such as placenta previa or placental abruption.

It is probably just increased discharge. That happens when you are pregnant because of all the hormone changes. Wear pantyliners.
Also, it isn't your mucus plug. Your mucus plug builds up throughout your pregnancy, and at this point it is not what it will be at 35-40 weeks. You also only loose your mucus plug once, so you wouldn't keep seeing it.
If you are concerned, bring it up at your next appointment, and as always, call your doctor immediately if there is pink or red, bloody discharge.

You may want to see your doctor if you are that early in your pregnancy... But, to answer your question, mines was actually clear and had the consistancy of snot (mucus). Mines didn't come out in a lump, but rather in pieces that I noticed when I would wipe myself. The day that I went into labor, it wasn't clear anymore, but started to get pinkish. I didn't know what it was, becuase other people had told me that it would be like a brownish "lump" or "clot"...

As long as it is clear/white it is fine. If it is yellow or green it could indicate an infection, or if it has blood in it, it could indicate a problem, such as incompetent cervix (Personal experience). Women CAN have discharge at any time during pregnancy, not just before labor. I had it off and on from about 12 weeks on.

You should not lose your mucus plug until 2-3 weeks before delivery. I would definately suggest that you contact your OBG and discuss what you are experiencing with him/her. It sounds as if you might be "spotting". This should be addressed now. Please call, explain what your seeing and get in to see your doctor.

Some people don't even know that they lose it, but it is kind of noticable. It looked to me like a snot, (lol sorry its gross). Its clear but thick and stringy. I lost mine a week before I had my first and about 2 days before I had my second.
