I used to be one of those people that wondered, "why do gay people have to always want their own separate stuff like they are so special? separate parades, and events and such..." I used to think, its your sexuality. stop segregating yourselves...

That was until i joined Yahoo Answers. Being a black muslim woman i am part of two minority groups, and lets be honest, those are not two of america's favorite groups to be a part of, lol. Yet it is who i am...

I hear people on here all the time making rude comments about why blacks have to have a BET, or a newspaper, or a black history month... And basically saying the same thing that i used to say about the LGBT community...

Now i see that its not about segregating yourself, its about being around peopple who you can identify with, and express yourself, and be represented and treated fairly, and that is an AMAZING feeling when you're amoungst others and you can be yourself and be PROUD to be you.

LGBT: you have my humble apology

Do you realize how amazing you are? I'm sorry you had to learn the lesson the way you did. No one should have to deal with any kind of hatred, but unfortunately it's there.

To paraphrase a quote from Gandhi, you have become the change you want to see in the world.

Allah bless and keep you.

well, i think you answered your own question. we like to be able to be ourselves and sometimes surround ourselves with people of same groups and not worry about what others think. and if you have ever seen a gay pride parade you would deff know why we have our own parades, i couldnt see the city or christmas parade with a float full of drag queens throwing candy at people.

I am proud to be who I am regardless of where I am or whom I am with, and I do not require being part of a flock of sheep to feel secure and don't really give a flying fart whether someone understands me or not...I understand me and that is what counts. So, while I think that everyone has the right to live as they choose, I do not agree with your reasoning for apologizing to a group that hasn't the huevos to stand on their own, to just be who they are, without waving rainbow banners and patting each other on the butt in public and creating a general nuisance for others to deal with. I am very happy with individuals doing what they feel to be right for them, I am NOT happy with groups shoving who they are or what they believe down my throat.
