I'm 36 weeks pregnant and for the past three or four weeks my skin has been itching like mad. I've tried lotions, creams, oatmeal, benadryl, hell even perscription anti-hystamines and NOTHING has even come close to being helpful. If it were just my abdomen, I think I could handle that, but this is ALL of my skin, all of the time. Anyone have any suggestions? I've talked to my doc about it and she just tells me it's caused by the pregnancy and will go away when I have the baby. But I've still got 4 weeks to go and it's effecting my sleep. Any suggestions?

Mary, this is baby 5, I've just never had this problem before which is why it's driving me nuts. As for bath and body works? :-( No such animal in Alaska. Hell, we JUST got a Bed Bath and Beyond last month, we still don't have a Target!

For everyone who's asked, yes, my liver has been checked. In fact, my doc has run tests for all the suggested conditions here...they've all come back clean.

Katie, You say that stress caused yours and when you went on maternity leave it went away? Interesting.

I had the same thing. I saw three dermatologist and no answers. I tried every medicine and over the counter cream....It finally stopped for me around 35 weeks...but I had mine from about 19 weeks till then. I was literally going out of my mind. The itching kept me up at night. I was irritable because of the itching. Once I was put on maternity leave because of stress at work...the itching and rash went away...amazing huh?

Good luck....I know how miserable that feeling is!

Hey Mom, its because you are getting bigger. So, if this is your first baby, relax, because you wont get this chance later on, with other kids running around. If you have the cash, go to bath and body works, or if you dont have or dont want to spend that much, head to walmart and goto the bath isle. Find yourself a package of Aveno Oatmeal bath, or something like that. Also pick up some other kinds of nice bath products, that state they soothe skin.

Enjoy some nice bath time, to moisturize your stretching skin. You might need to do this once a day or more, and it really will help. Be sure to bring some baby books, or whatever kind of book to pass the time. Light a few candles, etc. Even doing this before bed may help you sleep better too!

Next tip: Don't make water too warm! Its not good to overheat baby, and if the waters too warm, it'll just make your skin dryer, and worsen the problem.

This is easier and more enjoyable than doing the lotion all the time, especially if you don't have help rubbing it all in.

*Note: Bathing while pregnant is totally ok! As long as your water hasn't broke, bath water can not enter the uterus. Just be careful not to slip. Keep a dry handtowel close by so you can get up with dry hands. Or have daddy close by to help you get out. (I know I needed help, I was huge!)

Dyshidrotic Eczema Pregnancy

Yeast? Pregnancies tend to bring that on...

Try soaking in a warm bath with 2 cups water softener salts (not epsom salts). Add 5 drops lavender essential oil... the lavender oil should be safe enough for pregnancy, but if you don't feel comfortable with doing it, don't of course. ;) But the salts will draw out that yeasty-beasty... I have that problem, the itching, and when it "sets in", I get in that bathtub with the salts and lavender and soak... I also have "aching" in my hip joints that seems to be part of this too (the ache and the itch happen simultaneously always, never alone)... and it gets rid of the whole thing in a few days. Soak for 20 minutes each time you do it, and you can do it more than once per day if it makes ya feel good! ;)

*Then* put on that oatmeal lotion. ;)

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.

Best Eczema Treatment?

Music enables you to eat more. According to a study by the journal Psychology along with Marketing, soft, classical tunes encourage someone to take time over your mealtime, so you consume more meals. So, switch off – silence could make you more aware of what you’re investing in your mouth.
