Sounds like it could be infected with a fungal infection.
You didn't mention if you are circumcised but sometimes moisture can build up under the foreskin and infection can build. If the infection is only 4 days old, and the skin is getting red and itchy, it sounds more fungal rather than bacterial in nature. Especially if the skin is raw, unevenly sore or itchy, maybe even peeling. The site usually does not drain any fluid.
I suggest using some antifungal cream. Not the kind for athletes foot. (avoid that). Try Miconazole cream (like the kinds that women use for yeast infections). You should notice a difference within two days. Use two times a day, morning and night. Make sure you clean and dry the area well. (avoid underwear that is not cotton).
If this works continue use for one week. If not, and the symptoms appear worse...then call your doctor.

while your problem may be a simple case of overuse asnd clear up in a few days (or rest that is), it may also mean there is an infection. I'd give it 3 days with no sexual activity at all (and that means no masturbating either). If it doesn't heal, then go show your penis to your doctor and see what needs to be done to remedy the problem.

You're right, you may need medical help. It sounds like it could be herpes. Get thee to a clinic.
