They were originally called "Motor Carriages" Which just got shortened to "car"

The act of carriage is carrying something.

This word ended up attached to a particular type of horse drawn vehicle, which eventually gained a motor. The word automobile is far more recent.

The word float in milk-float has similar derisions (The type of cart commonly used 'floated' along).

Automobile - automatic mobility. You get it, start it, drive it. Car is short for carriage, but if you call your car a carriage, you might get beat up.

We call the 1998 time out "the truck" cuz in fact it is. We call the 2004 Mustang "the '04" and the 2005 Mustang "the '05" and we call my Fusion the "FUUUUSion" dragging out the 1st area like between the granddaughters did it perfect whilst we've been given it. not too unique regardless of the undeniable fact that it works.
