I am in the process of building a new home in Oklahoma. the house is about 75% complete. I am having a problem because the contract states I was suppose to have 10ft wide, 8ft tall doors on my garage but the contractor didn't make the ceiling in the garage high enough to do that. Long story short, I only have 10x7 foot doors and there is no way to put a 10x8 because the ceilings are too short. My question is, what are my options? I feel I a owed some sort of compensation for this but don't know how much. I would really rather have the doors the size I ask for than money but don't want to wait months for them to bust out concrete and reframe the entire garage. Any knowledgable suggestions appreciated.

Get your money back, however much you paid.

Or you can wait. But chances are you're going to get it redone later, so contractors might charge more to tear up the old and replace it.

The specifications you set forth are contractual, so failing to meet them is a breach of contract.

You can sue for the costs of making the change yourself (whether you actually make them or not), or you can sue to force the contractor to do so (called "specific performance").

It all depends on whether you want to have the extra time taken to fix the problem (and you can sue for any expenses that you incur because of that time delay) or take the money as damages for the breach and decide later whether to fix it.
