Im an American and i agree with you that perhaps now we are not the greatest in the world but go back 50 to 10 years and we were.
Dont say you guys could of won the war without us. Britian would of collapsed without our support, opening up the eastern front for a full assualt on Russia. The Russians were getting their asses kicked right up until the time we came in to save Europe from the 2nd coming of the Roman empire.

Your complaint is that the United States interferes in countries where your country has no self-interest, but doesn't interfere at all or quickly enough in conflicts where your country does have self-interest. So, is the US military the UK Defense Force? I was under the crazy impression that the US entered wars for a multitude of reasons, not just for the benefit of its British counterparts.
By the time the US had entered World War II, Russia and Great Britain had lost incredible numbers of people and were running dangerously low on supplies. Although the American soldiers fought bravely on European fronts (and they didn't have to! remember that), I'd say the most important resource the US had (that Europeans didn't) is an economy able to respond to the overwhelming need for industrial power. US industry was able to produce ships and weapons at a staggering rate just when its European allies were being depleted. And if you weren't so concerned about proving your country is better than the USA, maybe you would have figured this out from a little something called a HISTORY BOOK. Check it out at your local library.
By the way, you don't care that you can't spell? And you're from the UK? Did the UK suspend spelling and grammar rules this past weekend? You're embarrassing your country.

For the record to Joseph W, Canada and Britain more or less won the War of 1812, since the US launched an invasion of canada where you burned down our parliament, but were eventually pushed back by canadian militia and british troops. After Napoleon was put down in Europe, the british essential put the US back in there place by burning down the White House. Had the British wanted to, they easily could have taken back the colonies. But at that point, it wasnt in there best interest.
Also in WW2, by the time the Americans entered the war, since they sat out the first 2 years selling weapons and technology to both sides, the americans were dragged into the war. At which point the British had already suceeded in breaking the german air invasion on the british isles. And the key to British success was actually the fact that there allies (New Zealand, Canada and Australia) were sending massive amounts of troops and supplies to help the british. In all likely hood the events of WW2 would have ended the same, since Russia would have eventually have slowed the germans down and new technological developments (T-34) would have been put into proper use. The US only really helped hurry the end of the war. the Invasion of Europe likely would have been an attack on southern france and likely a bit later in the war when the Germans had pulled most of there strength to the eastern front.
Now on to the real question about american imperialism. For the last 20 years, the US has lost its right to call itself the best country to live in for a few reasons, but mainly the development of the socialist states in Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Canada and a few others. The only reason why the US is as powerful as it is now, is because they had the advantage of being out of WW2 while the rest of the world was busy fighting, this allowed there economy to outgrow the other countries easily, and since the US mainland was never attacked, they never suffered any real damage to there industry. This allowed the US to dominate the post war world with its powerful economy. At this point US corruption is visible to everyone, the War in Iraq is the best point to use, where companies like Haliburton are given massive contracts simply because the Vice-Pres has alot of friends there. The US has even manager to destroy its own economy with the US war since china now has the power at anytime to destroy the US dollar since it has close to 1 Trillion US bonds and could choose to sell them for pennies, devaluating the US dollar and likely putting the US back into a mass recession. The only hope you honestly have is to elect another clinton and pull out of iraq, atleast then your economy wont collapse.

If you are actually asking a serious question I will answer you seriously. As an American I, and others like me are very critical of our country. We demand of ourselves that we behave 'better'. We have, in our core principles, the desire to help. We try to feed the underfed, heal and aid those with little or no medical care. We are usually the first to assist any disaster worldwide with money, tangible assistance and boots on the ground. We are, on a grand scale, optimists. Also on a grand scale we make mistakes. Our mistakes are out there for the world to see and critique. Our moral core, which I mentioned earlier came from people in the UK like John Locke and his contemporaries. Sorry about that WWII thing, it probably won't happen again.

I was wondering, Did the Brits protest the Falkland Island's war? and if they did, did they chant "NO BLOOD FOR ROCKS"? America is in danger of dumbing down, but after reading your question, I see we still have a great advantage over idiots like you. Without America you would still be hiding in your tube stations getting bombed daily. Because of us you can now get bombed daily in the pubs.
Is bad spelling a badge of honor in the UK? I'm sure any Brit with an IQ over 56 is embarrassed at the thought that someone like you is representing them. I mean really, how hard is it to hit spell check?

If it hadn't been for the industrial might of the U.S. you may well be speaking German or Russian today.
Face it, wars are fought with equipment as well as men. Germany failed because the Allies could replace equipment and destroy Germany's faster.
Take a look at countries like N Korea and Vietnam. Are they worse or better today for embracing Communism?
The UK and the US are so closely entwined because of our history. I would love to come to your country and get to know the people. I would like you to visit ours, not so much the cities but out here in the country. I think you would come away with a different point of view.

Now why would you hate us simply because we ARE the best country in the world? Jealousy? And it is, indeed, true that you would have been invaded by the Nazis had we not only joined the fight to save your arses, but provided you with arms and other materials, either through the Lend Lease Act or in ways that FDR sent materials that the public knew nothing about at the time.
Amazingly, our schools seem to be infinitely better than those in the UK according to your horrible spelling, inability to use the check spelling button, and your lack of of knowledge of history. Now THAT is shocking!

England was one fog bank away from speaking german. Montgomery was an absolute idiot. Without Eisenhower, Patton and Bradley you probably wouldnt be speaking english, not even german.....you would be speaking russian. You may not like the USA, but go ahead and cave into the terrorist like Spain and see what happens. You have NO Friggin clue what you are up against. Oh, and being from the UK and not able to write in english is no excuse. Honor that good liberal education my friend, we need good garbage men.

well we kicked your @$$ in 2 wars (Revolution and 1812). We should have let Germany defeat you which they would have. Russia and the US defeated Germany and Japan. America fought on 2 fronts while England could barley hold on in 1. The word Dunkirk comes to mind when Britain had to run away.
