It hasn't encouraged me to be greedy because I haven't won. If spending a few bucks a week is within my budget then I should be able to waste it whatever way I choose.

Not necessarily. The money and profits that come from the lottery go to our school systems. I don't see a problem with buying a ticket or two every now and then, when people take it too far and spend huge amounts on the lottery, that's another problem. As far as encouraging greed, we are already greedy people to some extent. There are MANY more things that encourage greed other than the lottery, especially with our society today.

I saw this sign on a math teachers door once "The lottery is just a tax on people that can't do math." However, saying that I still but a ticket every now and then, what the heck, its fun to dream if only for a few days.

Yes, it's a waste of money in that the mathematics of winning are against you.
The 'greed' part I don't follow- losers only have unrequited greed...not encouraging at all.

Yes...

Yes, it is a tax on people who cant do math...

And yes, the money does go to our school systems...

However...it is a way they can raise money for schools without having to have rich people pay any taxes.. Most tickets are purchased by lower and middle incomes... The guy worth millions of dollars will probably not buy a ticket so he can win one million..

It is just another example of how sad the state of our union is.. where we REFUSE TO FUND OUR FUTURE. People dont give to schools out of kindness, or out of desire to better the world... They must be lured into it by promise of potential wealth.

This and ant other state sponsored gambling is truly nothing but a way to tax poor people.
Someone I know works where lottery tickets are sold and most people that buy them are people struggling to make ends meet.
