This President and those elected congressmen and women must do what is right .
They know that an economy based on war can only thrive as long as there is a war going on .
Since Eisenhower warned America years ago about this I can not say we were not warned .
I hate war ,but the reality like all politicians know is our economy is based on this and its not going to change anytime soon .
So like some people on here if you want a better life its time to just join them and support an increase in our imperial control and gunboat diplomacy in order to enjoy those things that are most important . Family and friends who support one another so that we are not faced with joining the military and risking our lives . If we work hard and stick together none of our kids need ever worry about going to war in a foreign land instead they can complete college and go to work supplying and profiting from the wars that we so desperately need to expand our economy .
Lets get behind Bush its whats best.

Sometimes the truth is just the best thing you can offer people .
So if you want change and our nation to end its nation building you will have to put something on the line . Your life . Yes join them or begin to organize to over throw our current government . To end this we will have to go to war with our own people . We will need to fight or be ruled by the elite and those they choose to place in charge of us . What say you on the question at hand join them or die opposing them as free men and women in a war you detest against your fellow man .

I disagree with you. I did not know that our economy was based on the military until I saw the documentary "Why We Fight". The people are not well informed of this, and it seems current politicians have not made an effort to tell this to the people. I dont remeber George W. saying anything about boosting our econmy when he decided to go to war.

Also it is our duty to figure out ways to thrive WITHOUT war, not with it. You sound as if your saying "sure the system is broken, but we should just go with it".clearly you are trying to make an arguement for the war in Iraq that does not exist.

Also, you sound like a fatalist. You are saying that if we dont go to war in Iraq for the next 20 years, we will eventually have to fight a civil war in America? How do you draw such insane conclusions? This question is absolute lunacy.

I'm betting we'll see our troops (the majority of them) home within two to three years. What it takes is a ramp up of force to expedite the resolution of this war.

Keep in mind, also, the enemy is suffering casualties, not just our troops. An insurgent can only blow himself or herself up once, right? Al Qaeda is on the run, the Sunnis are now uniting with the Iraqi government and most Iraqi's now see Al Qaeda as a primary threat.

Three years of our troops building and rebuilding while Al Qaeda blows stuff up is finally getting across to the Iraqi people. We will win this war, unless the Democrats take office and throw it.

You are wrong.

A war economy is good, war is not; and the only difference between a war economy and regular economy is the amount of spending.

During wartime, spending like crazy helps the economy. So all America has to do is spend like crazy but not be involved in a war. They can spend it on so many things that it shouldn't be a problem.

yeah, but the number troops can be significantly reduced given that a decent Iraqi army could actually be established without them double crossing us

also, if we can just keep our so called allies to stay and help and I agree that the UN should be able to take some of the responsibilities, about time they made themselves useful

just remember bush is on his way out, with ratings at its all time low, so don't expect the next president to "stay the course"

We have been in Korea since 1950 and the President has stated that he believes a good solution in Iraq would be to model it like we have in Korea. It keeps the peace and the south Korean economy is growing.

If we all take that attitude, yeah, you'll be right. If we all just throw in the towel and say "Yeah, we're powerless to influence our politicians, what happens happens." it'll be the darkest day in American history and we'll cease to be a Democracy.
How about we do what our Forefathers intended instead, and use the power of Free Speech and the Vote to take control of our country and do what's best for US, not what's best for the no-bid contractors and those they're in bed with.

Yes I understand this. It is strategic in the Middle East. I believe he wants to install a military base. However he does not have my support in this endeavor.

So why are we still in Korea and Japan? 60 years later and we are still there. I suppose if we had been neutral in WWII we would still be living in this free society?

Duh, regardless if we even "pull out," because there will be permanent U.S. military bases there, and every withdrawl plan includes leaving at least a small number of troops there to train and still do missions.
