Their market value is waaay above MS and any other PC maker.
They are the single hottest selling computer maker in the market.
They dominate the digital music world.
The iPhone is actually a small compuer, it's 100% software driven. It will only get better.
Unix is THE most widely used system in the world (Servers, networks etc) and OSX is based on Unix. Very easy to port Unix software to Mac.
There are Mac servers out there, we use one at work.
Apple innovates, and everyone else scrambles to play catch up.

Well you have to look at it this way.
Music and Cellphones.....Microsoft has not put anything out there to compete with this market. So is Apple beating Samsung, Nokia, Motorola?
Computer Sales - They may be competing but only for personal machines and not servers.
Operating systems - Way more people use Windows or Linux over MAC.
Applications - Way more companies make software for Windows and Linux then for MAC.
So you really need to compare apples to apples when thinking that Apple is competing in the market place.

I think it's the other way around. Microsoft came out with a Zune to copy Apple's iPod. Microsoft came out with Windows Vista to copy Mac OS X. The only thing I see that Apple copied is the Windows Mobile phones by releasing their iPhone. Apple once released a video game system called "Apple Pippin". Check it out at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Pippin. It didn't sell too good though. The Pippin came out before Microsoft's Xbox. The Pippin didn't sell too good though. Overall, I don't think Apple is coming to bite Microsoft in the @ss.

I see from various sources that indeed Apple is biting MS because MS bit the public via Vista. Vista has not so much over XP, and the next Windows is *already* in the wings!
In addition, many webmasters say that, due to virtualization (long-available on Apple), they'd develop on "nothing else".
And, of course, as you say, there's ipod and (undeservedly praised) iphone...
Video games? Most likely, Apple - souped up, most likely...
Lots of folks may answer here that PCs are important because of "market share" and other "traditional" stuff like "there's more software". But if transition is to overcome those factors, it can't occur in one fell swoop overnight!
