The assorted combine of religious, political and historical authorities of ancient times were lying most of the time just like they are now.
People read the ancient texts just like they think they are accurate. How sad and unrewarding. Little ladies run around quoting scripture, citing sites and voting politics just like they think they know what they are doing. Very pathetic.
The only way to begin to undersatnd the past is to look closely at the present. The present is a reflection of the past. Most people do not know how to really focus on an iota. They imagine more than they really see.
Art is a substance on a surface or a variation thereof. Anything you see beyond that is your imagination.

The doctrine of the Holy Trinity states that God is a single Being who exists, concurrently and forever, as 3 persons: the father; the Son; and the Holy Spirit. by using fact the 4th Century advert, in the two jap and Western Christianity, this doctrine has been reported as "One God in 3 persons," all 3 of whom, as different and co-eternal "persons" share a single Divine nature. How this works isn't totally universal and is one the the Christian mysteries. there's a narrative instructed approximately St Augustine: Augustine grow to be walking alongside the sea coast attempting to confirm the secret of the Holy Trinity and got here as much as slightly boy. The boy grow to be attempting to pour the sea right into a hollow interior the sand with a seashell. Augustine instructed the boy what he grow to be doing grow to be impossible. Then the little boy instructed Augustine that it is likewise impossible for the strategies of guy to attempt to understand the secret of the Holy Trinity. I can't agree with some of your statements here.

You open with a completely unsubstantiated statement that all authorities of ancient times were lying most of the time. Were they? I can think of many that probably were but, equally I can think of many that weren't - where proven by two independent sources.

"People read the ancient texts....they think they are accurate". Untrue - proper historians look for substantiation from more than one source.

"The only way to.....understand the past is to look closely at the present". Also untrue - it is very easy to look at history with a modern mind-set and completely misinterpret things because of that. I accept the point that Pompeii had fast food outlets and brothels, but the writer of this ignores the fact that Pompeii also had a gladiator school and an amphitheatre, things we don't have today - ancient people had a different outlook on life to us.

The present is, however, a "reflection of the past" but only a reflection. The present is a function of our previous history and examining the present does help us to understand the past - but by no means is it the ultimate key.

What is your evidence that all the Romans's , Greeks and Hebrews said is a lie? The Hebrews had, and today have, a world view that is strange to us. But it is the basis of their world beliefs . Are you saying the Aristotle, Plato and Socrates were wrong as Philosophers? Well their observations are the base to which we view our world, Socratic Method, Aristotelian Logic and Ethics, Platonic Thought. The Romans gave us the writings and observations of Ovid, Tacticus and even the system of government that the United States is based on , it's true the idea of a people chamber and an aristocratic chambered government is Roman.

It is sad that people read and interpret the ancient writings their own way but what is to keep you from saying that you think that their ideas are wrong and to have your own interpretations? Information is just that information you have a brain that should be used to study interpret and make conclusions about ideas and things that you read.

My Friend I read here that you are taking the first steps to self awareness. We all go through it as we get older, in the religious world it is called a Crisis of Conscious, In the secular world "The Development of the Mind". You doubt all things now you are a cynic but you will begin to develop your own thoughts and beliefs. What you are seeing in the people who quote scrpture and verse and the like are people who have deep knowledge but not necessarily a belief in what they say. They are locked in a fear of the new that binds them to a life that is small and narrow. There is a biblical passage that says. " When I was young I thought as a boy and did things as a boy, now I am a man and I look at things as a man ..." Also "Professing themselves to be wise they became fools" I like Paul he cuts to the heart of the matter.

I consider myself a Christian but have found that most people aren't ,even if they profess to be Christians. I don't accept all the beliefs but I like the Philosopy of Jesus and try to live by it. Good luck on your journey a grow well. I hope you don't become so jaded as to become a cynic because they can be so boring. I find Humanism much more accepting. Good Journey.

Your statement undermines the whole history of the world. You completely trash the Bible and every other historian based on the fact that history repeats itself. The Bible is 70% accurate according to archeologists which is something I wouldn't expect from our own 9/11 report. The ancient historians, such as Josephus, may not have been 100% accurate (something I can only attribute to God) they were close to it. If they weren't a reliable source of information, they wouldn't be considered historians. And yes polititians do lie but that's part of the job but there is a difference between a politician and a historian. Your statement that the only way to understand the present is to understand the past is backwords. You can't understand the present unless you put it into context and you can't do that without comparing it to a previous time.

And a side note you offended me and anyone who likes history.

I have to agree with you that the future is a reflection of the past, and that many people act on the past assuming that whatever they read is correct, just because it is historical text or information. In reality, they need to closely analyze what they are reading in believing to determine how accurate what they believe is true. They must do this because it is incorrect for them to automatically assume what they read is correct just because it's historical. No one was God to make everything perfect back then, religiously, politically, and socially speaking. Although I'm not saying that all historical text and that of which people go around siting and spreading today isn't true, I'm saying that it must be reviewed at carefully and must be examined to check it's accuracy and validity. I do believe in some historical texts and claims, but not all. Thanks for this question, hopefully, it'll open up people's minds a bit.

The four books of the New Testament and the Revelation of Saint John were not committed to writing until decades after the death of Jesus. The only parts of the New Testament which were written at the time they occurred were the epistles. The entire New Testament was not codified until hundreds of years after the events they portrayed.
So, I don't go about citing those scriptures. But, I do have my faith.

I agree with you heartily. It seems that people imagne that in ancient times humans were somehow different than they are now. Visiting Pompeii was great for shattering that concept for me. Fast food reataraunts outside of sprts facilities, the big pharmacy near the brothel district, the rich areas, the poor areas, political graffitti scrawled on the walls - you get to see that we havent changed a bit in 2000 years, and so texts from that time have more authority than texts from our time. People are now like we always have been.

You seem to have a dim view of humanity and one exceedingly large case of self-righteousness and a possible god-complex.

I pity you; a man without {any} faith in anything at all is dead already; he just hasn't had the courtesy to lie down yet.
