In my experiance other men seem to gossip/talk more even if the subjects arn't as widespread as womens e.g. football, work and beer.

This maybe a British/European thing but we gossip about what football players (soccer) do off the pitch.
where beer's concerned the gossips likely to be about what happened the night before.

O.K again for our american cousins-
Gossip/talk were beer is concerned is about what is happening or what has recently happened in the pub e.g. I was off my head on Carling when I saw A walk in talk to B and they left together after a few minutes I wonder if his wife knows?
Simple really.

It's debatable. Depends a lot on the personalities type of the person in question. members of both sex do a lot of gossiping, it does not matter whether you are a man or a woman.

American men are big gossips, too, although they hate to admit it. I've had some of the biggest gossips I've ever met who were men try to convince me that only gay men and women gossip. Whatever. There was a study that came out recently that showed that men and women both talk about the same amount every day, and that they both gossip about the same amount.
There are actually good reasons to gossip. We're a social species, and gossiping- just talking about other people- helps let us know what's going on and what's expected of us. Vicious slander's a bit different, but everyone does the harmless kind of gossiping (the "oh, guess what A did today!" kind, not the "A is such a ho" made-up kind).

An ex of mines loved a good old gossip. All I'd have to say is "I know a secret" and he'd be flying across the room like he was on fire.
But generally I don't think men are as bad as women. OMG that reminds there was this women that I work with and you'll never guess what she did? No...no I really shouldn't say.

Did you read "Watching the English" by Kate Fox? She actually talks about gossip. She showed that men and women gossip just as much, but they call it differently ("information exchange" I think). They also do not SOUND as if they were gossiping (high-pitch tone), don't give as many details, and there's another one which I can't remember. Subjects also differ, but they do gossip about people they know.
I don't know about America.

One of my circles of friends is all male. These guys are all straight, and they all gossip more than any woman I've ever knows. These guys will tell each other's embarrassing secrets, talk crap, and even lie behind each other's backs! These men spread nasty rumors and lie to each other all the time about it!
I've never known any woman who behaves this way except my mother.
Now, I'm not saying that ALL men are like this. I'm just saying that maybe the stereotype that women gossip most is archaic.

I've personally found that it's pretty close with MEN taking the gossiping edge.
