The tapering off of periods is pretty typical for long-time contraceptive users. Your body has adjusted to the hormones and is controlling your menstrual flow accordingly.
BTW, while you're on the pill, you don't ovulate, so you don't really NEED a menstrual period (as your body isn't building the endometrium as it would naturally for the fertilized egg to settle into in the event of pregnancy). The bleeding you have is actually just a physiological response to the sudden drop in hormones (during your placebo week).

While I was on the birth control pill, my periods were almost nonexistent they were so light. The pill causes hormone changes. When I got off the pill, the heaviness came back. The pill tricks your body into believing it's pregnant so you can't get pregnant. Therefore, your periods are less. If you're really worried, you can get a blood test and dr will test for any other problems. I never had a problem, but it's better to be on the safe side.

I think all women experience a change in their periods when they switch to the pill. My periods would come anywhere between 21-30 days in between which was super annoying. I could never tell when I would start. Now I know that after my last pill, I always start friday night in the middle of the night. My flow starts out heavy for two days, gets light for one, stops for one, then gets heavy for one then I spot for the next day or two before I finally stop. It's not the same as it was before I started the pill. You're normal but ask your doc anyway, it can't hurt.

Yeah.. I can tell a big difference when I'm on the pill. My periods are shorter, lighter and I have less cramps. But when I'm not, its another story... I hurt so bad that I just want to lay in bed and the bleeding is awful. Its because of the hormones in the pills.

Different kinda of birth control have a different effect on your period. Some cause heavier periods, other cause light periods that only last 1-3 days. This is how my periods are, light and short.
If this started occuring after your changed your birth control its probably your birth control you really have nothing to worry about.
Even if you haven't you have nothing to worry about. Over time your body changes and gets use to the birth control and may cause light periods also.
Don't worry to much many women have the same issue going on. But like you said talk to you doc about it, they can give you more details about it all. Good luck!

"The pill" is a hormone. Doctors routinely prescribe "the pill" not just for birth control but also to control heavy bleeding. I don't know the technical details but "the pill" tricks the body into thinking it is pregnant so you generally do not ovulate.

I've heard that one of the potential side effects of the pill is a lighter period. Either it's the pill or just your body maturing.

The pill does make you 'lite' it is more like a concentrate bleeding.
I think girls who are really heavy are advised if possible to go on the pill to make it 'lite' for them
