I signed up for peoplepc but canceled the next day because of a software error that I could not fix even with tech support. They gave me a confirmation number and said the account is canceled. The following day after I canceled I checked to see if I can still log in on the web page. I still could so I called them back again inquiring about the active account. I was told that the account would not be canceled until next month because they already charged me. I had used people pc years ago and they canceled the same day I told them to. AOL also canceled the same day when I used them. I read online about peoplepc trying to charge people even after cancellation so this makes me nervous. I was under the impression that your account would be canceled the same day you called not when your billing cycle is up. Has this changed?

I paid by credit. Peoplepc does have a no refund policy and I am not worrying about the money since it was so little. However I do not understand why they would cancel it next month instead of when I called. I have never had an ISP do that. Like I said I read of peoplepc billing even after you cancel which is why I do not want to wait an entire month. Plus the reps were acting all huffy over canceling guilting me and trying to get me to wait a while before I cancel. It makes me wonder if they are intentionally not cancelling this month in hopes I will change my mind.

PeoplePC is notoriously hard to cancel!!! Save and print your confirmation and make darned sure you don't get another "automatic" charge on your credit card!!!

Now my rant, and if you don't like rants, stop reading now, and thumbs-down my answer:

(IMHO, you did well to cancel them! Don't ever sign up again! They're owned by Earthlink, BTW. You can't use PeoplePC on a mobile device like a phone or a PDA because, of course, you can't download their derned software there...)

At any rate, take the confirmation number, and write them a certified letter, stating the date you cancelled. Snail-mail it to them. Send a copy of the same letter via email. Inform your credit-card folks to deny any charges from them, and gripe like heck if there are any: dispute them, and get them reversed.

Dig out the PeoplePC software from your system: it'll take considerable effort! After you uninstall, delete any folders containing it (the uninstall doesn't necessarily do so). Delete the accounts in your email software (like, say, Outlook) and your Internet Options! Do a thorough job of it.

Get rid of PeoplePC!

How did you pay, if you used a credit card or bank card (debit) you can call them and the can reclaim the money for you (as long as you have proof that you canceled). Have done this myself with a different company.
