Is that why Michael Moore movies are great date movies…you’ll know within 5 minutes of the movie’s end if you want to see the other person again?

Are you dating or married to the opposite now?

I am a hardcore conservative, bordering on Libertarian. My wife voted for Bill Clinton twice and supports the Democrats on everything other than abortion. I actually enjoy having someone I can debate with on a regular basis, and it has never effected our relationship. I think anyone that allows political beliefs to effect their dealings with family, friends, and loved ones is just taking things WAY too seriously.

Yep, I'm doing it right now. I'm dating a woman that is a democrat and a liberal. I'm and Independent and a conservative. I have convinced her that she's not a democrat but an Independent but she still remains a liberal. She has all the traits of a liberal and we have argued about some things. She's right sometimes and other times I'm right and as long as we admit when we are wrong, we should have a good relationship. Everything else just seems to fall into place. We both have been through college and she's a councilor where as I own my own business. It just works for us both.

I have previously dated someone with opposite political and religious ideas and values than me. Needless to say, it didn't work out. Now I'm in a relationship with someone who shares my beliefs (or lack thereof) and things are going really well. So based on personal experience, I'm gonna stick with someone who is similar to me. Not that I have a problem defending my views or sharing in someone else's differences, I just don't think that should affect my love / sex life when there are too many other things to deal with in a relationship. No need for added areas in which to cause friction or stress!

First of all, let me say that I'm a METS' fan. As far as answering your question, it would depend on how hard-core their stands are. The dates or resulting marriages could lead to new insights into the other person's point of view.

I am not currently dating, but I have a friend who happens to be a girl (i.e. not a girlfriend) whose political views are almost diametrically opposed to mine. We DO have many common interests, though.

Politics, if it is only one of many points of discussion or activity in a relationship, need not ruin or preclude it.

My terrific chum of 12 years is on the alternative facet of the political spectrum. we've super talks and comply with disagree mutually as scoring factors and yet being civil. Too undesirable which could not take place on Y/A.

I dated them when I was a teenager, but I wouldn't now that I'm looking to get married and have kids. I wouldn't trust some hippie to raise my kids. And speaking as a Republican, Michael Moore movies aren't great for anything.

Personally, I don't think I could. My brother did marry a Yankees fan, which is just as bad.

I've dated a few Republican women.. so long as they are intelligent I don't care if their politics differ from mine.. just makes for fun debates... as far as marriage... as long as there were no issues that were too large to deal with I suppose I would consider it if the right person came along.

I couldn't, but I know people who have.

My girlfriend and I watch C-Span the way other people watch whatever comes on prime-time these days. Your Lost or whatever. We have fun too. We have some great jokes we picked up from Senate Oversight Committees on the Firing of US Attorneys.

That would be very difficult for me to do since I have to respect the person opinions and views on issues.
