Now that is a very good question!
&
Isn't that the most irritating thing about toasters, the other thing is why does it take so long to toast the bread to a nice light brown and you have to keep putting it back in. The second you forget, too late, its burned beyond recognition. Is there no in between lightly toasted to horribly burned?

lol.... i had the same Question and so i called a toaster company... and they said .,.. that they had added... a much stronger setting on there to toast bread.. because.,... 1. people are always in a hurry to leave the house in the morning.. and they would use the higher setting for that.... and.... 2. there is more than one type o bread and some bread types... toast at higher temps..... WEll .. i hope this kinda helped... bye

because of the fact there are different ingredients that pass interior the toaster which take an prolonged volume of time to be toasted, working example: bagels. Sliced bread isn't the sole factor that is going in a toaster.

the same reason it has a setting that doesnt toast at all. Many different kinds of people in the world. trying to satisfy everyone..

I love crispy burnt toast...... but maybe it's for bagels which take longer to toast through?

I think there just a B.S. switch 99% of the time they don't work so i don't know why they even have it there.
You will just have to babysit it to make sure it do's not burn.

when it starts getting old you will need the burn spot to get reg. toast again

Because some people can't taste food, so it makes no difference to them, but they see a nice dark colour so they think it's a good thing!
