To work on any US ship over 100 tons you need to get a Merchant Mariner's Document called a "Z-Card. To get this document you need to fill out the paperwork with the US Coast Guard, get a Merchant Marine Physical, Pass a DOT Drug test, and present several other original documents. Once you have this you can apply for a job.Several tug boat companies are in need of cooks. The job pays around $40k a year plus benifits and overtime for about 8 months work.

First you would need a seaman's ticket available from the U.S. Coast Guard. To serve in food preparation also requires a blood test. Check with the USCG web sight or visit the nearest office.

Unless your chef credentials are very good you may have to build time with a small organization. Also check with 'Catering Companies' for position's available on Oil Rigs. The pay is good and you can pick up valuable experience.

Good Luck!
